Yep, I'd like to see one too, never seen one from the snorkel side, just that one pic on RR's site.

Black PVC and a cone filter get the job done for a whole lot less dough ;)

Black ABS is sun resistant

The black pipe, ABS, has some advantages over PVC. It's lighter, more resistant to tempurature changes and chemicals plus it's more flexible than PVC. It's already black too. I've always wondered if a steam box like woodworkers use could be used to shape it.

I wondered if one of those plastic
welder setups from Harbor could
fuse sections together, that or have
a blow mold made to mas produce
these things, and for less than $$$

You're thinking like me. I wonder why nobody else seems to want to mass produce snorkels for the US market? The cost to manufacture can't be too much after start up.

???What about bending exhaust tubing to fit? It would be smooth the parts and equipment is already there and you could make different sizes 2.5" to 4.0". any one tried that yet?

Make friends with an electrician they have a heat box that thay use to shape plastic conduit for underground work it will shape ABS. or make your own with sheet metal and you BBQ.

Yes it works but you have to use abs as filler. plastic is like metal hard to mix different plastics but some will stick to others. try a small bit of it with your soldering iron or should I say someone elses soldering iron. it works.

Thanks

well i think after everything started to add up when building one it might not be as cheap.  new filter if the snorkle dosn't go into factory air box, hose clamps, plastic, brackets, rubber cuplers, ect...  after you add all those charges up it wouldn't be so cheap. :-/

cheap and effective, not as good as a RRO one but works ok.  cost 0 dollors,  beat that! :P ;D

EDIT:  5 dollors in silicone!  lol

I've installed the safari snorkel to mine.

Install is easy if you take your time and follow the instructions, it comes with a template to stick on your fender that has all the necessary holes marked on it so it's just drill and bolt on really.

I found the hose under the fender that joins the snorkel to the original air intake a bit short in th over lap so I replaced mine with a longer bit of good quality rubber hose, other than that the kit has all you need in it.

I went to a bit more effort than most to seal mine properly  seems it spends alot of time in rivers, instead of using silicone I used a 3m product called scotch weld
DP 8005 which is more like a cement that will bond rubber to LDP (what the snorkels made of) . I did silicone it first then  tested it in the river but still found water to be getting in some where with the silicone that when I took it off and 3m'd it all up  ;D.

Don't for get to seal any drain holes in your air box etc  I put a small tap in mine so I could open it and check if any water is getting in and drain any rain water that might find it's way in.

I only fitted mine  for the fact that I play in water alot and was  not  looking for the ram air effect to increase HP which I haven't noticed any way  ::) so I'd say if you after extra HP you won't find it with a snorkel.

I have an ARB snorkel also.  Real easy to install.  Looks good and for the money, it's paid for its self!!!

It just depends on what you want and have.  The ARB looks good but the PVC one's are cheep and if its a trail bomer I'd go that way.

I can't find the instructions that came with mine but from memory the hole is around 80 mm's. I used a hole saw to do mine. Remember to take your time aligning the template or you'll have a chet fight trying to make things fit.

Well.. I didn't get a camcorder for christmas :( but I'm hoping I can get one before EJS! I've really been wanting one. You can only say so much in pictures sometimes.

I dunno... Thinking about taking my truck up there gives me the chills.. I'll have to see how it drives with swaybars first. I think the new Toyota disc brakes could handle it though..

:)

Darlin', with the gearing you have on YOUR trucklet, no WAY would you need brakes at ALL on Lions Back!  I didn't use the Gnewt's brakes last year!

When I ordered mine (from RRO), it only took 'em a week or two to get it in.  I cut my hole with a metal-cutting blade in the saber saw (I didn't have an 82mm hole saw).

No they say that oils leak into the water supply from rigs durring water crossings. They say that snorkels encorage that kind of behavior. I know its stupid but nothing I can do about it. the f--kin treehuggers have a lot of finacial backing in our areas. thats why private property has been such a big deal in recent years.

Arh that B/S, Man I hate that sort of thinking !!!

May be you should point out that they need to ban air planes over you state in case they happen to drip oil from above into the streams and rivers as well.  :o

Aw, c'mon Mike - boats don't have exhaust!  They'd need mufflers if they had exhaust!  I bet you can't run a snorkel on a BOAT, either - you just KNOW it would lead to some kind of hooliganism!  So...

I should be able to wheel my vehicle with Colorado tags (and a snorkel) there, because it's legal in Colorado, right?

No snorkels allowed on state property. Private is totally different.

umm, shop-vac hose anyone.  It works! :D  But I went with something a bit more durable...flexible PVC from the pool store.  I don't think it suffers the ill effects of sunlight like its hard plasticy couterpart.  And it bends pretty good, as long as its warm.  A 90degree turn is pretty tough though, probably wanna seal up an elbow at that point.
