Title: Fastest you've gone with 4H engaged?

What is the highest speed you've gone when in 4-High mode?  What gear were you in (ie 4th, 5th, Drive) and what type of surface were you on (ie wet/dry gravel, snow)?

Myself I haven't gotten above 60km/h in 4th with 4H engaged, on snow/slush covered highways (80km/h limit).  I would probably be a lot more confident if I had a set of good snow tires, but the tires I have now suck in the slush, that's why I haven't gone faster yet.  I had no problems going faster on the same surface in my old Dodge minivan because of that. I can't wait until I get a good set for next winter!

I did 60-65mph in december/jan when we had a few snow storms.  Roads were partially icy/slippery, but not really that bad.  There was just a thin layer of snow on the ground and it was snowing heavy.  I was on the freeway in 4th-5th gear mostly.  I had no extra vibrations or noises than i normally would in 2WD.

I'm confident doing 60-70mph in high as long as i think i need it.  It's so easy to shift back to 2WD with manual hubs though, so i switch in and out where needed.

i did 100-110 km/hr all a  while back int he snow. no different than 2wd but I did see a major drop in fuel mileage!!! ;D

120km/h on the 401 (highway), in a snowstorm. It was great, because nobody was using the far left lane (snow covered ::)). My Toyo snow/ice tires stick like glue! They are by far the best winter tire I have ever had. Its worth spending the extra money :)

I did 55 mph in january, but would not go any faster than that.

Two weeks ago my dad and I took the Grand Vitara up to the shores of James Bay just past the Cree village of Chisasibi.  It was paved most of the way but at James Bay itself it's gravel for about 20 kms or so, soft loose well graded gravel and decently wide.  I got up to about 100km/h in 4th in 4H on a nice long straight but it wasn't long enough to warrant 5th as I like to slow down for the curves and blind crests, especially when I'm 1400km away from home!  Sure felt cool though.

So aside from the drop in fuel economy, there's no harm in using 4H for huge amounts of time at highway speeds, say on remote gravel 2-lane highways that go forever and ever (like the Dempster Highway or the Trans Taiga Road)?

Does a misubishi 3000 twin turbo smuggled in from europe count  ;D it was four wheel drive and four wheel streering, I got it up to 120 mph in second gear with the boost pegged  ;D

55-65 in my 77 ford f150 years ago, had to limp home about 200 miles from a camping trip..

I did 45 mph when there was about 8" of snow on the ground and still falling. I was in 4th gear. Me and some of my buddies were pulling a sled though so we thought that was fast enough. That was the first time I had driven in the heavy snow to. For how light a Tracker is it doesnt do bad at all in the snow in 4HI. A friend and I decided to drive around and see how bad all the roads were and I loved just looking at all the big trucks out playing around and then me with a little bumblebee coming down the road. They had to be amazed haha
