Title: Clunking/thumping noise
Post by: nuts4hotwheels on March 11, 2007, 12:12:30 PM
I have a 1998 4door 2wd Tracker.  At low speeds I hear an ocassionally clunking noise and you can feel it on the front passenger floor board.  It does it more when I hit bumps and it also made a similar noise when I put my knee on the front seat to lean over to the back seat.   I thought that it was the shocks, but I don't know.  I have rocked as hard as could but it didn't do it again.   Does anybody know what could be causing this or what to check for?
THANKS                      THANKS                      THANKS                      THANKS

sounds like a broken motor or tranny mount

If it is a broken motor mount wouldn't it do it worse when you rev the engine.

Possible body mount? Check that body mount up there where it mounts to the frame under the passenger front floorboard. Make sure it's not loose, or broken.

When you say it did it when you put your knee on the front seat to lean over to the back seat, are you sure that seat isn't loose? Check all the bolts that mount the seat to the floor, maybe?

 ???

Mine did the same thing I was so friggin frustrated that I could not find out what was loose and then the last thing I checked was the body mount under the drivers side door. It only kept me up untill about 3 am until I figured it out.
Noisy little bugger.
