Title: Tracker Won't Start
Post by: TLCzuki on March 13, 2007, 10:17:03 PM
So I have been re-united with the tracker.  My brother-in-law just drove it up from AZ to CO for me.  It is here and running like a dream.........except it wont start.  Battery is brand new.   When I turn the key, the radio comes on, everything seems like it has plenty of juice.  Would it be the starter if it is not even turning over?  I checked the fuses, and it can be push started very easy.  I am pretty sure the alternator is working becuase all the other electrical works and battery has plenty of power.  Is there anything else I could check?  Is it probably the starter, and if it is is it easy to change?  How much?
Any help is always appreciated.

It is a stick.

It's most likely the starter.  New, they're $150 or so.

Make sure the connections on the starter itself are in good shape.  The studs that come out of the solenoid can work their way loose.

The other possible problem is the clutch safety switch isn't working right.  It's located up on top of the clutch pedal, and it's designed that you have to have your foot on the clutch to start the engine.  This can be easily bypassed if it's bad.

Found it. It was a disconnected wire on the starter.  Looked under there and saw a wire had gotten loose.  Thanx for the help guys.
