Title: Speedo Cable
Post by: CBTracker on December 29, 2004, 01:16:56 AM
Last night my speedometer let go while at a friends house. I think I broke the cable, is there any easy way to get the cable out without ripping apart the dash, I really hate doing that for the forth time. lol I wish the cold weather wasn't so rough on the tracker...

Just loosen the speedo and pull it forward a bit,
the cable either pops into the back, or there is a little
turn clip, I can't remember, then feed the new cable
thru the firewall and hook it up, no need to pull the
whole dash.

You should only have to undo 8 screws to get the speedo out, 4 in the shroud (or what ever you call the black trimming around it ?) then 4 more to remove the speedo then just pull on the cable and it pops out. I removed the 2 plugs going into the speedo just to get it out a bit more and make it easier.

I actually found too the the OME cable was cheaper than any aftermarket or 2nd hand one here, I paid NZ$35 for mine.

It was the cable, it's in two pieces now, so I have to take the casing off the transfer case to get the second half off. where did you get your cable? I can't find one through UAP-NAPA or the scrap yards, and the dealer wants 150 smackeroos to get the whole assembly.

Whooa US$150 ????

I'm in New Zealand (way down at the bottom of the Pacific ocean) and I just got mine from the local Suzuki dealer. I originally priced one from a dismanter and they said NZ$55 which I though wasn't bad but then while I was ordering other parts from the dealer I just asked how much new it was and got a huge surprise !

Needless to say I ordered a new one. I've found this on several occasions that the original stuff has been cheaper than aftermarket gear so now I make it a point to check first. Another good thing about buying from the dealer is they now give me the trade price and are willing to put the effort into finding the little things that are hard to buy after market.

I'm picking mine would be different to yours anyway as mines a R/H drive so the cable would be shorter then a L/H drive ? I'd be ringing another Suzuki dealer and checking the price !!

lol  yeah, I'm in canada so that's like 15 dollars US, but that's still more than I wanted to pay. so much for an afternoon fixer jobbie.  I'm going to call a suzuki dealer in halifax to see if I can get a better price.
