Title: 1.6L DOHC conversion
Post by: xtreme_x90 on March 16, 2007, 07:45:29 AM
Anyone here done this?

Take the DOHC head from a Swft GT and put on the 16V 1.6L. Here is an article on it:

Sounds interesting, pretty much a bolt-on deal. Any thoughts?

Replaces the narrow angle 16 valve SOHC design fitted with throttle-body injection for a 16 valve DOHC equipped with multi-point EFI.

Clearly not done their homework, all 16Vs are multipoint EFI. Later SOHC models with crank sensor are sequential injection.
The general concensus of opinion is that the SOHC head tunes better than the the DOHC so theres little to be gained. I'm tempted to fit the DOHC onto my 8V (the Swift engine can often be picked up very cheaply over here) but don't want to have to pay out for new pistons.

I wouldn't say that, maybe in their Country, they were available?

I would not do it for a sidekick but a 1.6 16 valve in a swift gt would be killer! all the EFI stuff is there already. would be a nice high revving engine thats for sure!

All our sohc 16v 1.6 engines are multipoint. Autospped has a lot of good info but sometimes the odd error creeps in as they source a lot of info from other sources.

The dohc head does not flow as well as the sohc head without radical work. Looks bling though. I know someone who uses the sohc head for sprintcar racing as it offers more. The setup that he is running though is not offroad friendly but it does rev. ;D
