Title: idler arm removal
Post by: bentparts on March 26, 2007, 07:34:18 AM
??? speaking of idler arms, yesterday I got a wild hair, and decided to strenghen the idler arm mount and build a lower support for it as well. (This is for the Tracker.) I removed the mount and boxed it in with steel plates in the open areas to strengthen it, then made up a lower support bracket that bolts to the A arm mount and connects to the bottom of the idler pivot, similar to a Calmini support.  All was well there, But when I tried to remove the idler arm itself I couldn't budge the thing. I tried a couple of pullers but really couldn't get a good bite under it. I've lubricated it with some kroil ( serious penetrant) and hope to take another crack at it later. I want get it off so I can maybe make up a stronger one, or strengthen this one. Any tips on tools or tricks to gettin' it off?

Did you ask it nicely to just come on off of there? ;)

If nothing else you can try heating it with your torch.
