Hey Gang,
I need some help figuring out what to do about my gearing on my little beast.
I am currently running 31's 16X8 Rims.
Stock 5.13 (Front & Rear) Diff. Gears.
Stock TCase Gears (Don't Know the ratio) - Running Twin-Sticks
Took the rig out today for it's first test since I got it back and my low range gears aren't all that great....also highway driving is difficult at best.
I AM Planning on swapping in a Diesel Engine (1.9 TD) (6 Months-YR)& I am planning on swapping in twin transfer cases (6 Months-YR) in the near future.
With this said what should I get the Rock Monster Gears from trail tough or should I go with something else? Will Rock Monster Be a Good Option with my plans?
I like having low gears like my J**p and I want to maintain my highway driving abilities.....today was a bit of a let down,

some 5.62 r&p's should help out a lot, especially with he highway driving. if youre adding a second t-case in the future, id wait and put the lower gears in the second t-case, and just lower the axle ratio for now.

It's going to be TOUGH to find gears.
I have 31's and 5.62's and it is close to stock gear ratio now... BUT, my tires and wheels are so heavy that freeway driving is STILL not that fun. It'll go 60-65, unless you hit a hill.. maybe your tires and wheels aren't as heavy as mine though..

actually, i think zgoody has some 5.38's and some 5.62's for sale right now. but yeah, they are hard to find, but the t-case gears wont lower the high range, so that probably wont help on the highway. anyways, good luck with whatever you decide to do

Also will the Twin-TCASE setup with the Rock Monster Gears cause my to be to low?
I want to take advantage of the price :)

My 5.83's were just right, for 31" tires, now that I'm on 33's, it's still OK.
I have the Calmini 4.24:1 transfer case gears.
So - 1st gear = 3.62:1, Low = 4.24:1, Diff = 5.83:1
Multiply them all together to get 89.48:1 overall crawl ratio.
It's basically unstoppable.
Unfortunately, high range is still 1:1. That's the way Sidekicks work.

I would say, yes, on the 5.62 being too low with a diesel.
If you are only going to run 31s with a diesel engine, 5.12s and a stock tcase, or RM tcase (depending on how you like your gearing), will probably be about right.

Thanks for the advice so far.
I am going to leave the stock gearing alone as is for the moment.
I am going to swap to the lower range T-Case gears... and possibly an additional tcase at later point (duel)
anything else I should be concearned with?

Hands down, Trail Tough's 4.24:1
Rocky Road doesn't have the 4.4:1 right now, and even if they did, they want your transfer case, or a $150 core charge. They have to hog out a hole in the transfer case, and weld a patch over it, evidently. The TT's require you to file a little bit of aluminum from the inside of the case, just like Calmini's, but no danger of filing THROUGH the case. It takes about a half hour to an hour to install the gears after you have the case out of the vehicle. I installed the Calmini set as a transfer case virgin - it was easy.
