Title: 1.6 TBI High Idling....
Post by: TrakJD on March 31, 2007, 02:47:26 AM
I got the ECM fixed.  Tried to adjust the idling.... maybe 200 RPM drop.  That's it.

Cant seem to figure out why its idling high.  Usually between 1500 to 2000 RPM

ANy inputs...

And one more thing.  Is the 1.6 prone to Crankshaft problems?

How did you adjust the idling? have you got an analog voltmeter that you can use to measure the ISC duty cycle?

Well, it had a screw on the throttle arm.  It looked like it has been screwed with.  I bought this Tracker from a crackhead.

SO, when I unscrewed it a little bit, the RPM seemed to drop.  But it was "maxed out"  so.... That's how I "adjusted" it.

Could any Sensors be a factor?  defective TPS? Dirty INjector?

And hmm What's the numbers I should expect to see when Im using the analog Voltmeter?

The ISC should be running at around 50% duty cycle at 800rpm. The ISC duty cycle is output onto the diagnostic connector, you need to short B and D together and monitor pin A. You have to use an analog meter because the mechanical damping of the meter averages out the voltage.
FSM gives the following possible causes for a high idle:

Improperly adjusted accelerator cable
Clogged pressure sensor vacuum passage
Faulty Throttle Opener
Faulty ISC
Improperly adjusted idle speed
Faulty air valve
Incorrect fuel pressure
Faulty injector
Bd WTS, ATS or MPS
Faulty ECU

I'd start by checking all vacuum pipes for any signs of leaks. Then make sure that the throttle opener retracts properly when the engine is warm
