Title: Sidekick hic-up
Post by: zukinator-z on April 02, 2007, 07:05:41 AM
My wife's kick has a problem that I have not encountered before. At full throttle it starts to rev, then it's like you shut it off for a second then it kicks back in . It isn't all the time. It seems to happen at the most inopportune times, like climbing a hill.  Any ideas?  It has a brand new fuel pump.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated because my wife is very frustrated with it.. and so am I.   ???

Sounds like a fuel filter.  Mine used to studder once and awhile I replaced the fuel filter straighted everything right out.

You might have to drop the tank and clean it real well, and the screen on the fuel pump, the new gas station nozels are made out of a real soft aluminum and makes a real fine powder in your gas tank and will clog the screen up, you shut if off and let the fuel run back out of the screen to clean it and it runs fine for a while until it clogs up again.

Hello -

I encountred the exact problem with mine, and it's fixed now. so I hope it is going to be the same for you
I use to accelerate and at high revs it kind of cuts off like someone turns is it off and then on or it also feels like it needs gas...

Please take note whether the problem happens more if you are using lights/windshield wipers/stereo/heather...mine had that problem more often during night time when I had the lights on...

Mine is a 1993 Suzuki Sidekick, which means it's an electronic injection not a regular carburator
therefore it relays a lot on the electricity to run well. Mine had a bad alternator as soon as I changed it and changed the belt it was back to speed and it even gives a feeling like the engine is more powerful. because the alternator is giving enough juice!

The best way to go (free- no dollars) before you go crazy spending money and changing things and tinkering with the car: GO  TO AUTOZONE (www.autozone.com) THEY DO FREE CHARGING SYSTEM CHECK, THEY WILL CHECK YOUR ALTERNATOR, BATTERY, BELT EVERYTHING FOR FREE. YOU DONT HAVE TO BUY ANYTHING.

If it's not that then you can go and proceed with other options but this one is free and easy all you have to do is open the hood to the guy in front of the store -- THIS IS WHAT I DID.

Good luck to you !

You say it hic-up's.  In may opinion it doesn't sound like a fuel problem it's sounds more like an ignition eletrical problem. If it was a lack of fuel caused by the clogged fuel filter your engine would run lean and begin to make a knocking sound.

No knocking sounds . I don't believe its fuel related. My buddy(has a jeep)is going to get a scanner for me to use .I think it is ignition or injection problem???????. hope to get it by thursday.Wife wants to wheel on sat.
