After two new valves (on my weak #4 cylinder), a new front cam seal, a new front crank seal, a new water pump, and a 3/8" or so throttle body spacer, it's back together and running ;D ;D ;D
The only oddity was that I had no water temp after it ran for a few minutes which turned out to be the wire on the water temp sending unit slipped off (the boot was still on). Plugged it back in, and temp is normal :)
I haven't had a chance to drive it much yet. It'll post some comments after I have.
Oh, there is an intermittent noise (sucking noise maybe) that I haven't been able to pinpoint. I thought it was coming from the throttle body area at first, but then it sounded like the exhaust manifold side ??? Maybe I'll find it, maybe it'll go away when things settle in (how's that for positive thinking).

Good job!! ;D ;D

Sucking noise, check all vacuume connections,
and the brake booster line, the big ones are
the noisy ones

Yea, I'm actually thinking of just getting whatever number of feet of vacuum tube I need and replacing the stuff section by section (I suppose I could even check the vacuum diagrams in the FSM to make sure everything is connected where it's supposed to be.
I figure that it's probably overdue after 15 years.

Also there is supposed to be gaskets on
both sides of your Throttle Body spacer, there
are vacuume passages in there that can leak
One way to find it is spray Carb cleaner, when
the idle changes, that's the spot

Yup, got a gasket on both sides of the spacer, but I did make the spacer out of wood so I hope I have it truely "flat" on both sides :-/

I've heard of that trick but never tried it. I think I still have some carb cleaner from the last time I cleaned the throttle body; maybe I'll give it a shot.
Thanks.

Damn, sure your not from Wisconsin? ;D

Hmmm... I don't get the Wisconsin joke ???
Wood is supposed to be good for carburetors. As good as phenolic as a heat insulator anyway. But it probably does nothing useful (except it's plentiful and easy to work with :) ) on my throttle body. I would have used phenolic if I could have picked up a sheet -- cheap.
BTW, you're killing me with your signature block. You've at least got to get a little closer next time; I can't make out what the tattoo is of ;)

The Wisconsin joke is because you will see people do whatever it takes around here to keep their vehicles on the road!! :)

Ahhh. I do lots of stuff like that, maybe I'll start the Virginia Chapter of Wisconsin-ites :D
