Title: need 1.6l crank help!
Post by: inphobic on April 16, 2007, 09:20:42 AM
okay guys we broke the crank in our car this weekend and we are trying to find parts. I found a 16 valve motor local but it is a 92 (90k mi it's $700)( Also found a 90k mile 98 for $900.) Are there any differences between early and late 16 valves. It also looks like all the 1.6l cranks are the same is that correct? We have a 96 tracker by the way. Thinking we might rebuild ours later as we have more time but drop in another one for now. Or buy a reman crank and put in ours. Just reying to figure out our options. Thanks, Jake

Just had a buddy order me a recon crank from these guys:

Mind you he's a rebuilder but $250 exchange (his cost) with bearings maybe you would pay a bit more for retail.
Just an idea.

The oil pump is diffrent from 95/96, look for a wire in front of the oil pan, if it is there that is obd2, change out the pump to the older engine with the wire type pump and oil pan, that should do it with the rest of your parts from the long block up, the early cam is a little hotter (bigger, faster, better  ;D) also.
