Title: 87 samurai running funny need advice!

hi hows it going! i have  a 87 suzuki samurai  that just started acting funnny! when its cold it starts to sputter at high rpm and sometimes when its hott? then all the time when i decelerate it does a loud back fire. my sammi has a custom exhaust system with a calmini header. any ideas on what to check and maybe how to fix it thanks for all your help! ??? ???

sounds like its running lean.  your carb probably needs to be adjusted or cleaned.  id look there first.

how much work ad how hard is it to remove and clean the carb? will i need to buy any new gaskets if i remove it?

Hey 87sammibob,

Its not that hard to pull the carb off at all, the nuts that are on the vavle cover side are a little tricky to get off.  Because of the lack of space, but if you have a shorty 12 mm wrench, it makes a so much easyer.

I just pulled mine off the other day, i didnt need a new gasket.

Mine used to backfire pretty bad, put a new o2 on it and it stopped most of backfires, it will do it once in a while.

And, check your timing. My vehicle was doing the similar thing, come to find out it was off by 10 degrees! It helped a lot to correct the timing.

Check your valve lash too you may have an exhaust valve thats tightened up.
