hi any of you guys know if springs off a 1997-98 2.0 v6 vitara will fit a 1993 1.6 16v 5 door vitara? if so is the ride hight the same? i think they will fit but not too sure :-\ cheers
-
Yes, they fit.
-
thanks are they the same hight as normal springs? sorry ;D

No, you'll gain between 2-3" of lift. The front strut mounts will need to be flipped, and the rear will need longer shocks. Write up is on ZW.

Is it JUST the front springs that fit, or all four? How is the ride with vitra springs as compaired to the wagoneer or aftermarket springs?

You'll get minimal lift. I even tried them on a swb and it is not worth the effort IMHO. You would get more lift from the later GV V6 as they are a bit heavier which is what Yankee Tim is referring to.

Okay, I just think a spring lift makes more sense (more travel) than a spacer. I know I would have to get OME struts to take advantage of extra travel... but if I'm going to go through the trouble of lifting, I want more artriculation while I'm at it. Since this is a DD I'm concerned about ride quality of the springs out there. Not much info out there saying what springs are best to use :(

Some people prefer softer springs, some harder. Almost all off road Zuks are different and so are their nose/tail weights which make a lot of difference to ride and to height. Some people are running spacers, some aren't. Wheel offset makes a difference to effective spring rate too. Then theres cost and how much you want to pay. There just isn't a 'best' spring. All you can do search back through the many posts, ask a few questions and then make an educated guess as to what will suit you best.

Yeah, it's just hard 'cause there's not a good thread out there with a compilation of info. A lot of the other threads are missing specifics.... like when to use front's and when to use rears, what springs are stiffer (I know Calmini's are stiff) and which are softer... Jeep or Vitra? How much does spacing affect the spring rate? Etc etc.
Anyway - just wish they'd make one thread where people talk about their specific setups, what affected them....
I'll be adding some custom bumpers with 2" receiver front / rear for my winch and taking my best guess as to what springs to get later. I know I'm going to want longer springs for my kick for more articulation... my best guess at this point is to get some Jeep springs (which ones?) and use spacers in front or rear to level it out as appropriate?

Sounds like you need to be a bit more specific in your request for info if you want a specific answer. tell us what model you have, what accessories you will have on it (weight plays a part), what you're wanting to use it for, what size rubber you want to run, rim width and offset, etc., etc. and then you may get some answers relating directly to your needs as there are plenty of options, some better than others and some cheaper and then you can choose which way to go. I've run a few variations of Kicks and setups and they all have pluses and minuses depending on where you're coming from.

Goals (in order of priority):
* Reliability
* Maintain daily driveability
* Rubicon Ready
* Have to throw in - spend as little as possible ::)
Ways I can think to accomplish goals: (please note these are my opinions from reading these threads, and I'm open to what everyone has to recommend)
Recovery & safety equipment (Winch - have 9000i warn already, high lift jack, CB, fire extinguisher, first aid kit, basic tools, maybe on-board welder)
31" MT tires
That aren't too loud for Daily Driving
Much bigger seems to make them daily drive poorly, cause more breakage, and gets
exponentially more expensive?
Lift / cut / backspace wheels to accommodate 31" tires
Want any lift to add more articulation. So longer springs / shocks / struts - prefer to avoid
spacers, and won't do a body lift unless absolutely necessary.
Body armor
Rocker panels
Front bumper w/ 2" receiver & d-rings
Rear bumper w/ 2" receiver & d-rings
Front skid plate
Gas tank skid plate
Pumpkin caps & axle shaft armor? Can this be done on kicks?
Dual t-cases (as this seems to be the only way to lower high range in my 5 speed?) with stock
t-case gearing. And / Or add a turbo to counteract the power taken away from 31" tires and
added weight of armor.
I'll be making custom front and rear (with tire swing-away) bumpers, so not sure the weight yet. I'm doing my best to engineer them to be light, but still protect the kick. They'll have 2" receiver so I can pull the winch in my apartment (stuff gets stolen here :( ) when not needed... and so I can run the winch off the back if I have to. I'll be getting nylon rope, so hopefully the winch will be lighter and only sag the front / back an extra inch or so when it's on?
So, from what I gather, I'll need 2-3" of lift... so... what do you all think?
