Im running a 8 valve tracker with 31's,4 to 1 t case gears and 5.12 thirds. I want to step up to 33's but are concerned about gearing being to high ??? with 31's and stock t case I was smoking my clutch every where(rocks ,no mud) who out there has a similar set up that could give some advice on what size tire to run? 32's or 33's??????

In low range, with your new 4.24:1, you will have very few problems, if any.
I am currently running the 5.83 R&P's, and 33's with a 16 valve - so I've got two advantages - more power, and SLIGHTLY (13%) lower gearing. I suggest you run the 31's to see what it's like, and then decide if you have enough oomph left to go to 33's based on YOUR driving style, and typical terrain. You will probably NOT be happy with the performance on the highway, in high range, with the 8-valve, and 5.12:1 R&P's on 33's. I know I'm not wild about MINE on the highway, with the 16-valve and 5.83's.

I realy don't care about the highway driving. I trailer my rig to where I wheel. It realy isn't even street legal.
Maybe just get new 32's for now. Although I have plans for a kicker 3 set up and already have the sammy t case ;D. That would correct it all right there.

I run 35" with that set up and it works fine, Ran 33's for 4 years that way. Engine rev's 400 600 higher ( something like that) at 55mph then a stocker. You should be around 77:1 crawl ratio.

hey copper how was your low range,1st gear in the rocks? burn your clutch alot or no?

I have a friend running an auto with 5.12s, 4.24:1 t case and 35s and says in works great. I am going to do the same to mine. I run 5.12s. auto with 33s. seems to be ok climbing but is sluggish in the thicker mud.

Sorry, for some reason I thought you where running a Sami.. You should still be ok, I believe Mike ran the same gearing in the RockStar with the 35's and there's a few other guys in my club running 33's and 35's with that set up. The auto's don't work as well as the 5 speeds down low even with 33's.
