Post by: mcgyver on December 13, 2004, 06:21:02 AM
Can a geo metros 1.3l engine be used as direct match to a samurai's 1.3l ?

Metro has a 1.0L 3 cylinder
Swift GT was a 1.3L 16V 4
cylinder with 100 HP
:D

It can if it is a 4 cyl 1.3 ltr. It will work with some basic mods like the oil pan, intake and exhaust.  Maybe the distributor as well.

Yes it will work!!

I ordered an engine from Unitex Trading Company
http://www.unitextrading.com/
a couple of years ago.  It showed up as a Swift engine.  I had to remove everything from the Sami engine and swap it onto the Swift engine.

The Sami is still running great!

the water outlet on the intake will be facing the firewall instead of the radiator when mounted into the samurai so a longer hose will be needed to reach. all other components will bolt together tho.

not sure bout the disty, I forgot if its like the GTI motor or not and if it is you'll have to do the mazda 323 GTX cap and rotor or carve out a section from the firewall for clearance.

If you swap the intake it shold be
the same as a stock 1.3L Sammy

I was going to put a 1.3L from a
Suzuki Car in the Sammy, but the
intake was different, and the EFI
wouldn't fit on the Sammy intake
manifold  >:(

I used to have an Isuzu Stylus (same as a Geo Storm), that little thing had some pep, but I can't remember if it had a Geo or Suzi engine or an Isuzu engine. I do think it was a 1.3 or 1.6 though.

What Do Ya Think ???

I find it funny Isuzu made the Geo Storm, Toyota made the Corolla and Prizm, and Suzuki made the Metro and Tracker. The GM pres must have his hand in everyones pockets back in the day. GM announced yesterday a joint venture with Chrysler to make hybrids. Don't see 2 American companies get together very often.

chrysler isn't an american company, what gave you that idea ...

I swapped a G13 out of a FWD swift in to my mates '86 SJ413 and from memory theres a difference in the distributors and the  housing on the back of the motor, I think the swift has a shorter distributor and housing  ??? Either way one won't fit into the other.

One other thing you need to change is the water pipe running along the R/H/S of the motor as thats different as well.

GM and Ford are working together on a new 6 speed automatic transmission to catch up with the Japanese.

Geo and Asuna were two of the biggest blunders GM had ever created.  I'm sure the exec who though those nameplate up was show the door mighty quick in Detroit...LOL

Thanks all for the input, I was able to find a samurai motor/donor truck for $200. I'm going to take the hood and the engine. The owner said If I sell the rest of the truck he'll cut me a deal. anyone need and parts cheap? I'll make sure this works out for all.

Did the manifold look like it would be
workable with a sammy ???

I could get a 1.3 or 1.6 intake and get
injector bungs welded into it, then your
1.3 EFI system could be bolted on

I wrote......  There I go again  ;)

I don't know if you can use the metro/swift EFI in a Sami, but the block and head will work.  The EFI thing someone else will have to figure out.  :D

I just got an 87 tintop samurai and I'm putting a 96 geo metro injected engine in. I've got the whole donor car. My problem is the distributor will not clear the firewall. Szabotage mentions useing a mazda 323 distributor cap. Does anyone know if it will fit a 96 4cyl metro? Does anyone know what year mazda it is from?
