Title: Its times like this im glad I have a Tracker
Post by: Trackin92 on May 02, 2007, 08:08:02 PM
The way gas prices are right now and how they are going up im glad I have a little 1.6L Tracker. In my area of this wonderful country of the US we are sittin pretty at 3 bucks a gallon. Now this is Indiana I cant imagine what places like California or Florida may be. I guess this is where Jeep loses because now dont quote me on this but arent there motors mostly V-6 or somethin like that i know for sure they arent 1.6 or 1.3 lol.

and just think, on a global scale the US still has some of the lowest gas prices. Where I am in Canada right now we are at the equivalent of $3.80 US a gallon and even still I believe we are at half of what gas costs in most parts of Europe.

I am stationed in Okinawa Japan and I pay $2.80 a gallon for 93 octane, but all they sell is 93 octane and diesel on base.  I don't know how my mileage because I always have my foot in it.   >:D

I Just got an e-mail the other day and on May 15 Nobody should buy gas. They said that last time that they done a movment like this price of gas droped $0.30 overnight. If everyone just on the internet would not buy gas for one day it would cost the companies 1.3Billion dollars.

Kind of a broken system though, as we all would just buy gas on the 14th or the 16th.  The only way to really make a dent is to have everyone stop buying gas from a specific company for a month.  Like Exxon or something in protest.  They take a profit hit, then drop the price, then you switch to the next company.  :P

Gas at home went from 2.80 when I left on a couple weeks worth of work trips to 3.40 when I got back.  That was a bit of a surprise when I filled up the tank.  :P

Here in Colorado, gas dropped down to $1.99 in Januraury(for one day), and has since risen almost every day to $3.05 where it is now. It's enough to make me think of converting to use and alcohol blend fuel. There are agricultural fuel stations around here that sell E-85 and even straight alcohol fuel much cheaper than regular. Or I could just start going through the Walmart parking lot with a sihpon tube and 5-gallon gas can every time I'm low... ;D

Thats kindof what i was thinking but everyone stop buying gas for a week not just a day i dont think it would create much of an impact becasue like you said sales would spike the days leading up to and the days after so it wouldnt matter.

One President with some gonads could get us off of oil in 4 years. Methanol!! Sounds like it's cheap and easy, better than corn ethanol for the evironment. Too bad the oil companies run the show they buy  the elections. When I move to the country I want to make my own alcohol. Gotta figure out how to burn it in my Tracker.

well, in the UK at the moment we are £0.95 per Litre,
thats £4.25 per UK gallon,
and with US$:£ at 2:1 thats $9.50 !!!!!!!!!!!!!,
but your gallons are 1.200950 X ours,
so that becomes  $7.92

I'll bet gas isn't the only expensive item in the UK. Everything has to be imported when you live on an island that has no remaining natural rescources(other than wool and fish maybe). What is the minumum wage over there? ???

nearly £5 per hour, thats $10 !  with income tax at 23%

I'm a banker by career, and my belief has always been that because we have a small land mass, and most taxes ultimately are assessed and collected against land asset value or high income (ie, people who own land by nature) then as our overheads spiral ( supporting the workshy, single mums, imigrants, waste of space politicians ect) then these costs get factored into everything else; prodcution, travel, leisure ect.

I'm just waiting for the 40 years service and pension, and when my old folks toddle off of this mortal coil I'm off to the French Atlantic coast !

with income tax at 23%

plus National Insurance at 11%. Tax rates also increase with earnings.

Wool and Fish, lol. Our sheep farmers lose money due to silly EU regulations and our fish industry nowadays mainly consists of processing fish caught by the huge Russian factory ships. EU regulations restrict the times that our trawlers can be at sea and where they can fish.
We do have a healthy oil industry but the main money making industries seem to be those that don't produce any real goods, insurance, finance and general paper shuffling. Economists refer to it as 'invisible earnings'.
