Title: 5.12's are in the Tracker
Post by: AJMBLAZER on May 06, 2007, 05:11:29 PM
Karl214 and I put the 5.12 geared thirds in my Tracker yesterday. I think I'm actually a bit OVER geared now as the speedo reads faster than I'm actually going by a little bit. I'm not complaining, I can hold hills and do 65-70 without sweating it.  Bet gas mileage goes up a bit as well.

Just goes to show that you can have the biggest and best engine out there but with the wrong gears for your tires you're just wasting power. I've only got 90hp or so to work with but with the right gears the thing just seems to scoot now.

You auto or 5 speed? my 94 tracker is a auto, and I am putting 5.12's in it here next week.

I haven't done any real highway or offroading with it but I have gone 70mph or so down a back road to see how it did and played around on the old barn foundation in my sideyard.

It isn't revving too high at 70ish and offroad the added gearing is nice.  Before it always seemed to be at not quite the right rpm no matter how fast I was going or what I was doing.  Lugged the engine a lot and ran out of RPM's sometimes.

I wish I had been able to lock or spool my rear before we put it in but just didn't have the money, time, or skill to do it. :-[  Oh well, it's my DD more than anything. :P

Lunchbox lockers (lock rites) are super easy to put in, installed them in 2 3rd members.
The whole install took about 1 /12 hours to do, that was with 3rds and drive shafts still in.
It was super simple to do.

Any 5 speed Tracker/Kick will have 5.12 gears.  5.38's and 5.62's are much more rare.
