Title: which Tcase gears
Post by: Amilla on May 09, 2007, 10:12:58 AM
I am in the market for some T-case gears.
I am going to be running toyota axles with 4.10 R&P
I want to run a 33's, but i dont want to loose all my freeway speeds. What would be the best T-case gearing choice to run?

any info would be great

Thanks

Amilla

Im assuming this is a samurai. My buddy Element runs 3.73's  with a 6.5.1 t case and 33's. seems to be ok. He just stepped up to 35's with 4.10 yota axles.
PM him   if you want more detail.

Close, I have 3.73 r&p with  RRO 6:1
The high range on these are 24% perfect for 33's!!!
Low range is 170% where you get a little bit more from the 6.5:1 184%-ish?, but less high range reduction...

Hey element did you put 3.73 r&p's in your self? Or are there any toyotas that are running a 3.73?

I think i might go with 5.14 T-case gears, I can always run like a 34" and possibly gain some freeway speed back.

Thanks

the 3.73 is stock in the sami.
I will be running 4.11 in the toyota landcruiser axles.
RRO 6:1 is ready for 33's
If you run anything less than that, you would want some R&P greater than 3.73.
You have toy axles already?

Ya i already have the toyota axles, and 83 front, and im waiting on eaither an 84 rear or an 85 IFS (rare modle i guess).  I have the 3rd members already, and they are all stock 4.10 or 4.11 r&p.

If i were to run with a 6:1 tcase gears and the 4.10 i would have enough gearing to do something like a 35" possbily 36".  But i dont need that much rubber under my sammi, so i was just going to stick with 33s.

I want some low gears for my low range, so im not sure if the 4:1 gears would be what i want.  Might as well go right inbetween and go with the 5:1, seems like it would do give me the lowest.  With the 5:1 and 3.73s it says its good for 32 to 33s, i guess i can deal with some lower speeds on the freeway...Or go with a bigger tire  ;D

Does all that mumbo jumbo sound simi right?

Im running 31 w trail gear 6.5 and 3.73 almost to low for the 31s on highway.
Low is great for everything including breaking things :)

How much speed can you hold going down the freeway?

4.10 rp and the 6:1 tcase would be nice and peppy with 33's. I will be running that with 35's. I might go to 4.88 rp for some pep!!!

Im torn between the 5:1 and 6:1

I guess i could overgear myself with the  6:1 and then always have the choice of running a bigger tire.

Does anyone know how big of a tire you can run with a wrangler lift?
I know it says up to 33 with stock heigh wrangler springs, but i have seen peop stuffing 36s in theres...with some fender trimming of course.

Thanks

I can run about 65 on average lose about 5 mi with a strong head wind or hill but
I think my motor is ready for a rebuild the gearing with the 6.5 is about right for 33's
hope this helps
