When ever I put it into 4 wheel drive and turn the wheel all the way to the left or right and try to go forword or reverse the wheels always lock up, whats up with that?? ???
-
Don't do that on hard dry ground,
you can damage stuff like that.

what do u mean
-
4WD is for use on slippery surfaces,
ice, snow, dirt , gravel ect. if you use
the 4WD on dry streets it binds up the
driveline and can snap U-joints, pop CVs
break Axles or even Frag your driveshafts.
Use the 4WD for traction when it's slippery
only, not just for driving

Ya, when its snowy out side i use it. and when i do it always locks up, when i fully turn it
-
I noticed it last year, winter
-
Are the tires hitting the frame ???
What size are they ???
Describe "locks up" better, what do
you mean by this, the engine stalls,
the tires stop turning, chattering tires
???
-
the tires stop turning. no rubbing. they just will not turn until i start to straighten the stearing wheel
-
That's odd, I would say use a little more throttle,
but I bet you tried that, sounds like binding, but
I can't say I have ever had that problem :-/
-
is it all stock?

Good Question
-
I took it to my Pontiac Dealership where i bought it and they said everything looked fine. But to me it doesnt seen right :(
-
Sounds like a bad CV to me ...
-
sounds like someone welded the diff???
lift the car up on the a-arms and rotate the wheels separately sided to side. one of your cvs might be binding as well
-
My '96 Tracker gives the same feeling of binding up, usually when winter driving and I get to a well plowed parking lot.
I just chalked it up to what Wildgoody said, that you're not supposed to use 4wd on surfaces where you have good traction. I just don't use 4wd on pavement, even if its wet.
I click out the hubs and it's fine. It also has never been a problem off road.
-
If it was the CV, then wouldnt I have the same problem even if it wasnt in 4wd ???
-
How do u lock and unlock the hubs?? I have the 16valve 3seed auto. and the 4wd shift nob.... i cant manualy lock and unlock the hubs..... im soooo lost :-/
-
Look at the center of the front wheel,
does it say Auto Locking Hubs or something
like that ?
or does it have a flat switch with the
word lock and free printed in it ?
If you have auto hubs you need to drive
backwards for 15-20 feet in 2WD to disengage
them, or if they are Manuals turn the flat switch
so it points to free
-
They are auto hubs
-
Anymore thoughts :(
-
Get some manual hubs from the
wrecking yard, and replace those
Autos, this way you can control it
better, when you need/want them
locked
