97 lwb tracker, 16v , 4speed auto, ps/pb. wife wants me to buy it for her, but it's got a check engine light. pulled the code p0102a, Maf voltage low.
it was idling low, so i set it up a lil, and cleared the codes, within a couple seconds it comes right back. what's likely to be wrong?? i'm tryin' to figure what to offer on it. it's got 171,000 km's , needs rockers and a lil work on back 1/4s, rear door leaks, needs brakes, and has a minor exhaust leak.
dealer is asking $3000 canadian, but was planning to send it to the auction on friday, b4 i took it for the weekend. it drives and runs nice, tail pipe looks a lil' ritch......... any ideas on the codes, or what it should be worth ???

MAF is the Mass Air Flow sensor. This sensor can be found in the air intake area. Basically what the MAF system does is give the Enghine Computer an idea of the volume of air entering the engine at any given time. The tricky thing about OBDII codes is that they can be interpeted a number of ways. Replacing the MAF sensor may not solve the problem as it could be a bad connector somewhere else or maybe even something blocking the air flow before the MAF sensor!
So the thing to do is to is to grab some tools, a multimeter and check out a Chilton service manual at the local library, carefully read the intake system section then go out and inspect the car again. That way, you might have a better chance at finding what is going on.
Check the body for putty - tap on the panels with your knuckles - to see if it's been wrecked.
