Title: Armor for my Sidekick Sport.
Post by: Zooki on May 16, 2007, 08:51:53 PM
I just finished installing a transmission/T-case skidplate, rock sliders, and gas tank skidplate on my '97 Sidekick Sport. I had to fab them up since the normal pieces won't fit. The Sport uses an 18 gallon gas tank, and the skidplate I bought from Aftermarket 4x4 was too small. Nice piece, but wouldn't work. I did use the front skidplate from them and it fits like a glove. Anyway, I bought a 4x8 sheet of 3/16" plate and had the steel company cut the pieces I need to build the skidplates. I went with a 12"x48" piece to cover the trannie/T-case all together, and reinforced it with 1"x1/4" flat plate on the sides.  The rock sliders i made from 1 1/2" square tubing in 3/16" thickness. I had to bend the ends down to match the lower body molding that comes on the "Sport" models. The mounts are a takeoff on the Schrockworks setup, they fit around the frame and clamp with a 3/8" bolt on the top. I'll try to get some pics of the 'Kick on the ground, but it's late, and dark outside!
So, here's a link to some pics:

There are a few other pics on the page of some interior stuff I did, as well as installing one of AEM's new oiless air filters. If you look closely at a couple of the underside pics, you can see the Borla muffler and tailpipe from my old Mustang that I managed to make fit underneath. Oh, and my new lift!  ;D

Oh, the swingout bar is just a pic I saved. I also have a '69 Mustang fastback that I'm working on, and I'm thinking of making the sidebars on the rollbar swingout with that type of latch. The pics of the console and the shifter mount are from the 'Stang
