I just got a new job where I have to drive 150 miles a day, and the tracker is not having it :(
While it has not let me down yet, the transmission is making a lot of noise (bearings) and on top of that I hit 2 deer in the same day which pretty much did in the grille and mis aligned the headlights. It also is having a few electrical quirks that come and go. As sad as it is to say, I need to get a new car, and possibly sell the tracker :(. I was just wondering from you guys as to what car I should get. I need to get something that gets good mileage, yet can carry tools plus a 6 foot ladder, and other stuff(I work for an electrical contractor). Also, when I get something else, I will put the tracker up for sale on this forum, as I would much rather see a suzuki enthusiast own it rather than someone who doesnt appreciate these cars. The only reason I must get something else is because I dont have the time to work on the tracker constantly to keep it going.

how much you looking to spend?
-
I was thinking $2000- $4000 dollars. I will probably have to finance it, but I dont want to buy something that is more than that because it would take forever to pay off.

Get a less used Trackick. I found mine for $2700, clean, in great shape with 80,000 miles.

first thing off the top of my head is a vw rabbit diesel truck with a rack
(should get at least 35mpg)
mileage is great and it will haul those tools and ladder

I have always liked vw rabbit pickups, but the diesel ones seem to get a premium price around here because of the stuoid "run your car on cooking oil" concept. It seems like no one cared about diesel cars from the 80s until the biodiesel thing came around. But I still think it would be neat to get a diesel.

Thats a shame about the Tracker but having done long distance commuting myself I understand where you're coming from.

My daily driver is a 94 s10 4cy 2wd.
It get about 25 to 30 on the freeway, and thats holding an avrage of about 70 mph.
Its a hell of a lot nicer to drive on the freeway than my sammi, gets from point A to point B a lot faster.
Do you want a extra cab? single cab? what?

yeah the vw will probably fetch the full 4k

Geo Tracker Convertible. :) With a 5sp you can average over 40 mpg, they are still fun to drive like a go-kart and you can put the top down.
Shouldn't have sold mine... :(
-
Over 40 mpg? Probably not I think that is almost impossible for a Tracker. Mine gets about 25 mpg if im lucky depending on how Im driving it but my tires are a little bigger but shouldnt make that much of a difference though.

Ack, I meant Metro. :P
I used to have a Metro Convertible that I would take out and run AutoCross in. Great little ride.
-
I'd just about KILL for a Rabbit Diesel pick up!!
Not sure what is so stupid about a veggie oil car... damn it's cheap to burn...
-
yeah, Im converting a Mercedes to run on veggie oil
should save me hundreds
and I thought metro too... but he does have to carry a ladder

Yeah, I worked at my new job for 2 days, and on the end of the second day they told me that they were moving me from doing underground utilities to doing rough install and finish work on houses(this is all electrical work), and to call one of the other supervisors to find out which job to go to the next day. So yesterday, I call the other supervisor, he doesnt know what I am supposed to do or where to go, and tells me to talk to my current supervisor. So I drive down to the shop(35miles one way) and he tells me that they dont have enough work to keep me working there and to look for something else >:(. Long story short, I dont work there anymore, and am looking for a job. But on the good side, my friends girlfriend said she would sell me her 1989 mazda MX-6 with less than 100,000 miles on it. It is a 2.2 4 cylinder with a 5 speed trans. We used to have a mazda 626 with that same engine and transmission, and it usually averaged 36-38 mpg, which is really good for a midsize car like that. So I will probably still be selling the tracker, but before winter I will probably get a 4 runner or extra cab toyota truck, to haul my motorcycle and quad.
