Title: Front End Build Up
Post by: Yoak on May 18, 2007, 03:12:52 PM: I have read about several different options in terms of building up the IFS.

Here is my situation, just converted from 2WD -> 4WD.

Haven't even done anything and I already broke a CV.

So since I have some time and funds I want to build up the front end.

I have read about the Calmini anvil, and the various options that can be swapped into the car, but from what ive read, its not really needed as there are other cost effective options.

I am interested in swapping in stronger CVs and possibly a different 3rd member.

I am going to install arbs & re-gear the front when I do this..... any advice?

I've been abusing mine ( ok, I am a freak about regular maintenance) for almost 2 years now, with lockers and 31's. I still have the aluminum housing in the front, and the old style cv splines. Still working great. You sure you got everything squared away in the front end?

Has a 3+3 Lift, and a new idler arm.

Driver side has the issue, so I figured if it is a weak link to go ahead and fix it now.

The piece is broken as it goes into the metal housing (does that make any sense)

Post by: bentparts on May 19, 2007, 03:33:37 AM: What did you do to lower the front diff? With 3" of lift, your sure to put some serious stress on the cv's without lowering the diff.

Post by: bentparts on May 19, 2007, 04:39:41 PM: Maybe it was just time for that paticular cv to give up the ghost. It may have been ready to go before you did the lift, the lift just hastened it along.

I ran the calmini kit and the rockroad kit with the cast iron vitara center sections lockers etc etc with stock sidekick CV shafts on 31 and 32" tires and I was pretty tough on that truck and I never broke a CV. I always carried a spare cause they are cheap. I was getting them for like 25 or 30 bucks at a local pick a part yard. Anyhow sounds odd. Were you turning excessively or something. Was it an OEM suzuki part? The aftermarket napa-like CV's are junk and I have seen them break before. Now I have seen OEM CVs break a couple times, but under heavy load/turning...

By the way I have the cast iron center section and the toyota CV upgrade kit sitting on my garage floor. I would be happy to box it all up and ship to you!

front cast iron diff and houseing, machined carrier to accept CV, detroit locker, 5:12 gears, 550.00 (set up for a hagan widening set up)

toyota cv kit with cvs and hubs (one cv needs a new boot) 300.

let me know I am going to post this stuff up on ebay as soon as I get some motivation!

Post by: speedball1981 on May 21, 2007, 08:40:10 AM: i'd definetely go with the toyota upgrade kit, the guys at apple valley, (ultimate adventure, 2004) were rocking 37 inch bf-g's with there if's with that toyota conversion, and we wheeled with them all day, and they wheeled hard. i was definetely impressed.

I know on the Calmini 2 inch with an Anvil does not need to be widened. I do not know about the 3 inch.

nah it wouldn't be 200.. I'm guessing less than 100.00.. I will weigh that bad boy tonight..just out of curiosity.
