Title: drop down tail gate for S/Top vitara
Post by: SiKiD_01 on December 12, 2004, 08:57:08 AM
i'm thinking of making a drop down tail gate for my soft top vitara to replace the swing away tail gate. same as what the utes/trucks have.

has anyone done this? and how hard would it be?

its just that sometimes i dont have enough room to open the tail gate, and it does take up a bit of space when open.

obviously there would be no spare mounting, unless there is a way.

thanks for any info or help.

On the topic of a drop down tail gate, could you pilfer the hinges, and the gate latch from a chev truck, the one that my father owns looks like it could be modifed to do the trick. as far as the spare tire you could fab something similar to a jimmy spare swing arm that bolts right above the tail gate to the spot where the body panel spacer is removed for the european roof rails. Of course you'd have to use bigger bolts then the spots provided. It might work, just my two cents.
