Hey there, the 1.3L in my lwb sami sounds like it has a top end knock some where my first guess is that a wrist pins possibly gone, but what do I know could be something else, how should I check things and what should I do first? pull the motor? do a compression test? pull the valve cover/head, or pull the oil pan off and check... any sugestions would be great.. thought id ask all the suzuki experts before I tear into it.

Describe the noise more, and what causes it,
either to happen or what makes it worse
Could be a big end rod knock too, heavy knock
or sounds like engine ping but at little to no load ?
Could it be a loose valve, or cam caps ??? I had
a valve seat come loos in a VW bug I had, sounded
like a rod knocking too.

yea it doesnt really sound like a bottom end knock, its kind of wierd, loud though, its like " clack clack clack " and when you rev it up it kinda changes sound a little, and it doesnt seem to knock on every revolution of the motor when you rev it either.. its kind of wierd, I did how ever find a screw that had fallen out of its hole on the cam cap? ( just under the cover ) but it didnt improve the noise atall.. and all of the valves seem to be in order from what I can tell.

my friends '80 grand prix was doing that and found out it was a bad lifter
his ticked really bad accelerating, but not at all when he let off the gas, also when idling it was off and on, sorta how you described it

No hydraulic lifters to make noise
in a Suzuki engine, it could be a rod
or it could be piston slap, piston slap
gets better when the engine in warm,
a rod knock gets worse, hope this helps
