I have my left front wheel bearing going out and called autozone and they have the parts in stock, my question is I think I have to replace the gasket on the stock lockout hub, what do you ask for at the parts store? The guy did not seem to understand what I needed. Also should I replace the race ring ( I know if is it worn ) I should , but if it looks ok should I just do the bearings? I have never do this before but have a couple of manuals to help me , How hard is it to do?
Thanks Allen in Missouri

You would be better off to replace the races as well, better safe than sory, and you are allready in there.tell the parts guy you need a gasket for the locking hub,and if that dont work use gasket maker or look elsewhere

Thanks King,
I am worried most about the race ring, What special tool do I need to remove it? I have a full 30x 50 shop with alot of tools (air compressor, welder, cutting torch, grinders). DO I heat it or grings it off and do I need a press to install the new one?
Thanks Allen

It is realy easy to press out,but i did mine a few weeks ago,and it drove right out with my bearing installer and a 2 pound hammer with no problem.
The hydraulic pump on my press went south,so I had to do something, and the driver and hammer was easy.

King,
I thought the race was on the inside and how do you (press it off) I dont have a bearing installer.

Sorry,i have a 4 door, and the race is one piece.it presses out of the hub from from the front out the back, and the race is secured by a snap ring.I have never seen a more stuck snap ring in my life, and i service firetrucks for a living and see some real bastards every day.I pressed it out before by putting a piece of round stock in the race that fit snug and pressed against the round stock. It popped right out.A buddy of mine got a piece of 1.5 inch schedule forty pipe, hammered it into the race, put plate on top of the pipe and pressed it out no prob.
Just find something strong that will catch inside the old race, and press off of that. You are putting in a new one so it doesnt matter if it gets eat up.
