Title: Gearbox oil for Vitara?
Post by: suzukiboyoz on May 22, 2007, 07:26:50 PM
Doing a major service on the Vit soon and I wanted to ask what oil I should use in my gearbox?
It has 135 000klms on it and the gearbox seems to be getting a little noise only on acceleration up the gears in 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
4th is fine.
Could be a little low on oil, haven’t checked but as I am replacing doesn’t matter too much.
What grade/brand of oil would be good for it, maybe a slightly heavier weight??
Also does the transfer box take the same oil or a different grade?
(It has the Calmini rockhopper gears in it)

I suspect you didn't get an answer because you weren't specific about the model. The Vitara name wasn't used in the US for the first gen models. I'm guessing thats what you have because your sig states a 3" lift.
Capacities and grades for a first generation Track/Kick/Vit:

Transmission Oil (M/T) 1.5L (2.6 Imp pt) (When replacing)
75W90 preferred
Transmission Oil (4 speed A/T) 2.5L (4.4L Imp pt)
DEXRON-IIE/DEXRON-III
Diff Gear Oil - Front 1.0L (1.76 Imp pt)
80W90 preferred
Diff Gear Oil - Rear 2.2L (3.9 Imp pt)
80W90 preferred
Transfer Case Oil 1.7L (3.0 Imp pt)
75W90 preferred

Any known brand should be OK
