Title: rusted rockers

hey thanks to everyone on here i managed to get the 2x4 steel for my rockers for cheap from fazios now i have a question...im welding the 2/4 to the rockers i already cut the rockers out and my question is should i box of the ends of the 2x4 to keep water from getting in there or leave them open?? its a 96 4 door tracker if that matters...im getting a freind to come over and help me weld them on sunday i now just need to figuare out if i should weld them closed or not.....thanks again everyone you guys rule!!

Personal preference, really. If you leave them open, you can blast the mud out of them with a hose and they will have a better chance to dry out on the inside. If you close the ends, makes ure you do a good job sealing them otherwise they can allow water in which can rust the tube out from the inside...

The ones on Silver are open.

ok yea it seems like both things have some good points .....now if i leave them open should i try to paint inside or anything.... i just dont want to have to do this again sooner then i have too...

I tapered and capped the ends of my tubes.  I think that even if some water made its way inside it would take a number of years to rust through.  Although I have seen tubes get water in them and then when the water freezes it turns square tube into a pretty good copy of a round tube. 

Here are a couple of pictures of how I finished mine off.

that looks awsome...im just starting to put all the stuff ive been collecting over the past year on my tracker...got a 2 inch coil spacer lift...building a 3 inch bodylift...and have some wagon wheel from a bronco sitting waiting for some 31's..but i wanna get rid of the rust i literally just slammed the door and 4 inchs of rocker fell off....those dam,nn plastic things held all the water and rusted...its the only rust on the whole truck it was wierd...
