Title: Lockers??

When i look up lockers for the samurai. It asks with or with out couplers??? What is the difference? And if i went from 3.73 to 5.13 what % reduction would i get?

I am not sure about the reduction but the locker with couplers. The couplers replace the side gears. Apparently you don't really need the coupler usless your side gears are heavily worn. I also hear that the unit without couplers is less noisy. Just a matter of which you prefer.

Thanks for the input!! Would 5.13 be overkill for 31" tires. Im thinking of going 31-12.5-15 cause most guys say 33" are tough on stuff!!

not sure on the locker question, i just welded my rear end up..

iam running 5:13 gears with 31x11.5 mud tires, it seems good to be. i ran some fairly hardcore trails today with it, and it did really well... tons of bottom end power ( compaired to 3.91 gears i had before) to get the tires spinning

Hi,
I am also thinking of putting a Calmini rear locker into my 2x4 1992 Tracker as I am not able to upgrade it to 4x4 now (can't find parts).
Do you think this upgrade will improve the offroad capability of my Tracker?

Well 4.62's give you about a 20% reduction.  reason I know this is I tossed 4.62's into my 87 sammy sitting on 31x10.5's and that reduction was perfect for them on highway.  Alittle to much actually. 5.12's would be way to much in a sammy on 31's

Update your profile to show location, plenty of people have the parts you need to do the conversion to four wheel drive.

I live in Hanoi, Vietnam
(there are only few trackers in the city !!!!), parts is not easy to find .
so even if I can find parts (for 4x4 conversion) outside the country, shipping cost and taxes will be a lot ?!
