Title: Kep the hubs locked or not
Post by: keith on December 09, 2004, 12:09:56 AM
With winter coming I'm debating keeping the hubs locked full time.  I know that makes the CV's spin continuously.  Will this produce appreciable wear if done for the next 2000 miles or so until spring?  I thought I noticed once that with the hubs locked there was slightly more vibration up front at high speeds than with them unlocked.  I am just talking about locking the hubs, not about using 4wd on pavement.

When we get snow I keep the hubs locked in, but it's usually gone in a day or two. I usually never run over 40-45 with the hubs locked, and if I get on a cleared off interstate where I will be running at speed for a while I stop and unlock them. I dont see any need in the extra wear and tear/ lower mileage etc... when it only takes a few seconds to unlock them.

can do as a lot of kicks dont have free wheel hubs, they jus have the caps on teh end that are always locked

I find if there more vibration its normally a bearing on its way out

I found the driveshaft (front) was out
of it's stock position, 180* turn and all
