Title: Popping out of 4L
Post by: KickTurn on June 09, 2007, 10:15:39 PM
My sidekick frequently kicks out of 4L and into N.  There's a fair amount of shifter movement, so I've suspected bad mounts/bushings.  However, I notice that I can shift from 4L to N without using the clutch, so . . . I'm thinking the problem is not a mounting issue.

Any clues?  Thanks.

You could have bent a shift fork, I have not had one apart yet but can't be that bad, I bet the worst part is taking the shifter off and getting to that top bolt that you can't see.

Do you have a body lift?

Mine was popping out of 4L due to the rubber boot acting as a "spring" of sorts.  When i'd push the shifter up into 4L, the boot would be highly compressed on that end, and want to go back into the neutral position.  You have to either change the shifter (bend or weld an extension), or flip the boot opposite to how it sits normally, then use a stock shifter.

You might have wear of the case itself, but it's not so common in the kicks as it is in the samurai's.

Nope, no lift.  I was suspicious of the boot, so I removed it and took it out for a spin-- still kicks out of 4L.

(BTW, got the bushings-- thanks.  Just gotta find a press now).
