Title: Stock Fenders Flares Removed FOUND SEVERE RUST
Post by: 96Kicker on June 12, 2007, 02:00:47 PM
Im Sure this has been covered here before(I did a search). I have removed the stock flares on my 87 sammy and found SEVERE RUST on the flare mountaing point. My question is it looks  like the flare mounting area is seperate from the front fender and I can remove this piece with keeping the fender on. I looked and can't find any bolts or screws to remove this piece. Is it glued on to the actual fenders? I am asumming it is I just don't want to put a screw driver to pry it off untill I know for sure? When I was in Moab for EJS I saw a few sammys not running the flares or the flare mounts and I liked it.

Any helpful info would be awesome.

They are spot welded on, take a drill and drill them out or grind them thin and peel them off.

Ah ok, now I see the small welds. I think I am going to just buy a new fender and keep the stock flares. Unless the bushwacker flares do not need the stock metal mounts then I will grind them off and run bushwacker.

my bush wackers are not even close to my stock mounts. was going to put some flat plastic on them to keep rocks from hitting them, they hit them realy hard.
