Post by: sanco on June 14, 2007, 08:59:08 AM
hey guys from what it looks like, everyone here has something interesting done to their car, if you want post your pics on here so rest of us can get some ideas, and just for everibody else to see!!!  since i started this i will go first

in the first few pics the HID conversion is not installed, the last ones you can sort of see the 8000k conversion

thats just the exterior, on the inside we have a 3 x 10" JL audio system with JL amplifier, infinity referance speakers, alpine radio with ipod/mp3 conectivity, escort x50 8500 blue hardwired radar detector.

the exterior mods are the calmini grille guard, piaa 540 series driving lights, thule roof rack, Helligkeit 8000k HID conversion, soon smoked tailights, custom painted rims, tints 35% front 20%rear

"performance" mods, well not exactly awesome performance change, but i got a duralast batery (optima knock off), and cone airfilter modification

hope you guys like it, its a little more "city" than you guys go for

Nothing really fancy here. Just a 99' GV w/BBS rims, a Kenwood powered sub, Sony 3-way speakers, Sirius and 2000' GV "Limited" leather interior!  :D.  208,000 miles on the original engine & drivetrain and counting! A fun little ride she is.  ;)

7/3/12 EDIT:  261,000 miles and still trucking right along on the original paint, untouched engine & drivetrain.  ;D

Ok for starters a 2001 Chevy Tracker  which is sittin on 205/70/15 Goodyear assurance tires and After market 15" Uniques. After Market Ultra white fogs, there small but give off a blinding wide range beam. INTERIOR Ive been able to pick up a pair Black and red leather seat covers which Blend in quite well. I'll have pics more pics up on the site later.Stereo consists of a Dual 220 watt cd player which is also WMA, Mp3,Ipod compatible. Ive kept the front speakers stock and replaced the rear speakers with Pioneer 175 watt 3 way 6x9s. Instead of posting a bunch of pics here Im just gonna keep it simple and post a link where ull find all of the info. Enjoy

Lucked out. Found a front end wrecked, 60K, 2000' Limited (high end optioned model) and scored the seats out of it fo' pretty CHEAP ($350)!  The old cloth ones were getting rather worn.

Got them off e-bay. My son lived an hour away from the seller. He scoped them out 1st for me first. Looked about 6 months to find that deal.

Run a search at...
http://car-part.com
Plug in the part and your ZIP. You'll at LEAST get the phone numbers and or links / e-mail to a bunch of bone yards in your area that carry seats, mostly cloth though.

Here's a typical listing for leather in the Chicago area junk yards.

Here are a couple of pics of my 2001 ZR2.  I just got it repainted with all new bumpers and moldings.  I have 235/75/15 with no rubbing or trimming, I am also adding a suspension lift, and maybe a body lift. The only bad thing is it snows once or twice every winter and I am 4-5 hours from any trails, Its great to be in the D.C. suburbs. :(

235's with ultra wheels. Dont know how much backspacing because they were already on when I got the Tracker which was the only thing done to it when I got it. Euro tail lights. Cut out middle of grill and put mesh in. (INSIDE) Tons of stuff painted yellow on dash, yellow and black racing seats with 4 point harnesses, clarion head unit, rockford fosgate 1 farad capacitor, MTX 4" component system, MTX 6" component system, MTX 4501 class D amp, two 12" MTX 8500's yea thats right 8500's and they hit hard as hell lol. Excalibur car alarm system protects it all lol.

here are some pics. I just got my new system so I still need to get some really good pics of it all.

It cost a little over $6500. A small tree fell on it and I got the whole truck redone. It is a brighter red than factory and it has 4 coats of clear thn wet sand and buffed and recleared. The pics dont do it any justice. You can shave in the reflection.

man there are some sweet ass rides here, the all black rims look sweet on that all white GV, i was thinking about doing that but it doesnt fit my style im going for (more urban).  and all i can say is WOW for the tracker guys, honestly i hate the way stock ones look, but man you guys kicked it up a knotch and your rides look freakin awesome.  there are tons of ideas floating in my head right now lol.

ngrover you should put a calmini grille guard on your baby, that would look sick as hell!!! if you want to see how it will look check mine out, its almost the same style ride as yours!!!

Post by: ngrover on June 20, 2007, 04:04:26 PM
yeah you're right sanco, i totally need a bumper. I'd like to make something like ZR2 did. You're calmini one looks rad but I'm going for more ground clearance / approach angle.

I made a mistake about tires, I have 225/75R16's (not 235). I'd like to go 245 with a body lift later this summer but at the same time I'm loving that I have no rub even at full lock with the current setup (plastic cutting required).. and I'm not sure the additional height of the 245's makes it worth the extra "tippy-ness" gained with the body lift.

bzzr2, how are the XL7 coils working out for you? last I checked people were asking if that was possible or if they would even give more lift.... what's the verdict?
Title: Re: Lets see your ride!!!

Here's mine.
2001 Tracker 4dr
3" body lift
2" bds springs with cut boondox spacers for total 3" in front and 3.5" rear.
boondox strut extensions, procomp 3" shocks out back.
265-75-16 on cragr 397's
manual hubs
Just finishing my winch bumper w/8500lb winch and adding roof rack "modified" from a nissan xterra. Snorkel is 50% built from aluminum tubing (frustrating  >:( )

bzzr2, how are the XL7 coils working out for you? last I checked people were asking if that was possible or if they would even give more lift.... what's the verdict?
[/quote]

the coils themselves were much thicker and heavier than my stock 2dr coils, about 1/2inch taller also.  i added a 1/2 inch coil spacer with them and i'd say the ride height on the back is now equal to when i had roughly 2inches of spacer only lift.  i heard i would get about 3 inches of lift with these, i would say 2 inches max on my 2dr softtop.  on a 4dr i don't think they would give much at all.  the ride is possilby better with a bit of weight but i have not yet loaded up for a weekend in the woods so i can't really say how much better these springs will be for carrying weight.  i may actually add more spacer up there if they sag under loads.  at the same time i removed my 1inch front spacer and replaced it with a 1.5inch, now my lift in the front is barely higher than it originally was with the smaller spacer as the springs have begun to sag a bit.  the ride is overall better on the road.

when i get it back from the dealership who have the front end taken apart.. i'll measure the frame height front and back along with the height at the wheel wells.

Here is my Vitara V6 2004

Some weesk ago, after a swamp crossing...

As you can see, I have had some problem with fender flare. :(

Fender flares have mud flaps integrated to them.
So, when I've been stuck in swamp, the truck has beed towed back (bad idea) and flaps have hooked in swamp and pieces of wood who was in swamps.
So, fender flare on both side have clipped out.

In the same swamps, second try. ;)

for some reason i can't see all the pic but those plastic bits will keep detaching themselves...  i eventually cut that crap integrated mud flap off the fender flare on my zr2.  doesn't look the best as i just hacked them off without any finishing.  i'm sure you could spend a bit of time to cut, smooth & paint the edge so this doesn't keep happening.

Hey Sanco, how did you go about painting your wheels like that? They look great!

i used high heat paint the one you put on like exaust headers so it actually doesnt flake and come off because the paint itself is almost powder-like....you have to make sure your rims are absolutelly clean and than just sant it down so its a little rough on the surface (i didnt do it and i regret it) so the paint bites better, you dont have to do it too hard.  put masking tape on the lip so you dont get paint on it.  after youre done with setup apply 2 coats of the black paint on the rim...wait for them to be done drying and youre done....i think for me the whole thing lasted about 5 hours and i was out driving...this is a temporary and cheap job (total cost about $8) but for me i will have to re-apply paint soon because i can see spots of gray kinda showin but it still looks great after lil over 3 years (not bad for $8 and little of your time)

Nice, my problem is that the clear coat is flaking off the rims and that might cause problems.

Benz the roof rack i made my self out of some box and angle, it turned out a lot stroonger than i intended,

the lift at the moment is only a 3" suspension lift with 30" Recip tyre but i do have a 2" body lift that i have to get around to installing

heres my sight of the work i have done on it,   http://suzukigvlittlemule.wetpaint.com/

most of the parts i have bought off a guy here in the UK Dave, knows his stuff and is a welth of information and the stuff he sells is top quality

Are those the stock wheels with the centers painted black? Have any close ups?
Title: Re: Lets see your ride!!!
Post by: zukipro on December 06, 2007, 10:43:46 AM
They are MB Motoring aluminum Wheels. I had them powder coated black and polished the lip. The tires are Toyo 275/60/16 slicks.

PC = powder coat
Title: Re: Lets see your ride!!!
Post by: zukipro on December 11, 2007, 09:13:15 PM
I had to use this yellow tape that wont melt and apply it the the lip before the powdercoat. It was a pain because the glue stuck to the lip and i had to use acetone to remove the glue. The wheels originally were all aluminum until i had the centers powder coated.

I took my original steel silver wheels and wire brushed them down to the metasl and had them powder coated black also. This way when its parked it still looks nice. What new mods have you done on your car?

well i just got on here so, my turn in my ride. its a ZR2 2001, 2dr with cut off muffler calmini 2.5 lift with a set of jeep coils in the rear, and 4.24 calmini gears in the t-case, superwinch hubs on 31x10.50 pro comps that are gonna turn into 265/75 toyo at

Post by: Jeff@TireBalls on December 18, 2007, 08:09:01 AM
Which Jeep coils did you use? XJ, TJ..front,rear? How much lift did it give you and was there any mods required?
Title: Re: Lets see your ride!!!
Post by: oilstained on December 21, 2007, 02:22:54 PM
the coils i used are those of a stock xj, it sits almost an inch taller than the coils that came with the calmini lift, for install they are a bigger coil than stock, so i swapped sides, so they sit on the mounts firmly, its a heavier spring rate, so it can be loaded more without the drag of the stock spring rate, they still flex out great.
Title: Re: Lets see your ride!!!
Post by: Jeff@TireBalls on December 21, 2007, 02:28:42 PM
So how much lift do you think you gained?
Title: Re: Lets see your ride!!!
Post by: oilstained on December 21, 2007, 03:00:05 PM
the lift gained is roughly bout 3.25 over the stock spring, and almost an inch over calmini lift spring.

here is some specs on springs, and the set of xj's i have i got off ebay for like 20 bucks.

XJ coil measures: 17" tall, 5" dia. and uses 0.475" dia. wire
TJ coil measures: 18.5" tall, 5.25" dia. and uses 0.575" dia. wire
95 Aerostar coil measures:13.625" tall, 6.5" dia. and uses 0.600" dia. wire
2dr Kick rear measures: 12.5" tall, 4.25" dia. and uses 0.460" dia. wire
2dr Kick front measures: 10.875" tall, 4.375" dia. and uses 0.600" dia. wire

Here's my 2001 Chevy Tracker LT.  I've only had it a couple weeks and this picture is from the dealer's website.  Its a 4x4 V6 automatic.  I just had the back half tinted with 20% today (looks MUCH better!!!) and the missing center cap for the front wheel has been ordered.  I'll be doing some more mild mods, but nothing too radical.  It has just over 100,000 miles on it and had only one previous female owner (verified through Carfax and her name and address on warranty card with the owner's manual).  Carfax even showed every service the dealer performed, every 3-4000 miles or so.  I actually passed up a couple of other Trackers, Grand Vitaras and XL-7's with 60-70,000 miles on them because they didn't seem as "tight" as this vehicle.  One of them had the death rattle at start up (too bad, because it had a moonroof).
I also have a '92 Geo Tracker LSi 4x4 convertible.  It has the 8 valve 1.6 and 3 speed automatic.  This little thing has over 200,000 miles on it and has one of most rust free body and underbody I've ever seen on one with this many miles .  I'll be getting pics of it up as soon as I can, and probably pics of both together.
Love the site, very informative!!!

2 inch coil spacer lift with old man EMU's and pro comps, 245/75/R16's, Y back custom exhaust with flowmaster 40 series, other do-dads. needs a longer panhard bar real bad and some more trimming in the rear fender wells. It's a daily driver now and doesn't get wheeled other than when I decide I need to drive over something when it's not really neccesary. it's a really fun daily driver and I enjoy every minute of the excessive body roll. you can kind of see my wheelin rig in the background of the second to bottom pic, it's an 86 yota pickup with SAS and a bunch of other stuff.

Hi guys, This is my first post here so I'll do a quick introduction :)

My name is Óttar and I'm from Iceland. I've always been into sport cars (first car a Dodge stealth and the second one a mitsubishi 3000gt VR4.)
But as a financial crisis is settling in over here I decided to get something more practical.

And then out of the Blue my uncle offered me his 97 vitara 2L turbo diesel for free. I couldn't pass that offer so now i'm joining your society.

A little info about the car.
He bought the car new in 97 and has taken good care of it since, always maintained by the dealership and I've got a receit for every little part that's went into this car.
the interior is like new and the body is pretty good for a 11 year old car.
It's lifted a tiny bit and I got it with new rims and tires.

The cam timing is a bit off, sounds like it has jumped one tooth, not enough to damage valves but enough to make it horrendously slow. Fixing that this week.

But now on to the pics.

I'm not really sure yet what my plans are, but I might decide to turn it into a toycar.

If there are any special precautions with this car when doing the timing belt and tensioner I'd love to hear them :)

Thank you.

Well, here's mine. I just had to put new rubber on it, 235/75/15's, I really didn't want to do it until I got a lift for it, but I had to. Now I'll have time to get the transfer case gears along with the 31's and a lift! I took the running boards off for the weekend, I think they are off for good! I went with a few guys to play and try to get the Tracker stuck and it went through more than I thought it would! Even made a believer out of a guy with a Rubicon!

in reference to the above rig, why did you get 5.71's over 5.29's?

it does look like an awesome rig.

Lower gearing. If you're worried about them blowing up, I wouldn't be:

Keep in mind they survive under rigs weighing a couple thousand pounds more than Suzukis.

Good looking ride, I like those rims on the 2nd gen Trackers.

Make sure you add some skid plates and rock sliders to your list of goodies before you really get out there...you'll be sorry otherwise.

I plan on getting a front skid plate and possibly welding one up for the transfer case...that cross member already took a few beatings.

Post by: olija on April 26, 2009, 01:06:59 PM
If you don't mind, post some pics and dimensions when you get around to making that front skid plate. I am still working on the drivetrain of my project Zuk but the front end is a little different compared to the Sidekick. The main thing that concerns me is protecting the bottom of the rad...there is nothing to bolt up to in front of it!

my 03 ZR2 with the recently added hardtop that i'd be happy to sell real cheap! (my mounting bolts are totally f'ed so I can't mount it properly) and the newly updated tires, 31x10.5 SSR's, these things are huge for 31's as they measure closer to 32!  turns out they work better than my last swampers too.  had to do some internal trimming/banging to make these fit, they still rub in the back a little but only on plastic, if i extend the bump stops with will go away.

Barely any! If you run those same wheels you have in the picture, your only rub will be when you turn super tight, it will rub on the frame behind the front wheel, and on the A-arm in front of the front wheel. The rear wheel will rub on the plastic inner fender liner, but it's fairly minor. If you get wheels that stick out more you will need to trim alot!

i'm running approx 28" tyres.. and with just the 2.5" lift, the clearance is pretty close!

Is it really ok to run 31x10.50 tires on the stock (6 inch?) rims?  I have a set of 8" wide cj wagon wheels i was gunna use.

ya, you'll just get frame rub a bit before full turn of the wheel.. you get used to this and how far to turn before the rub starts, not an issue to worry about and if it bugs you later you can get spacers or offset rims.  i run mine on stock wheels and it works great.

Jeff's lift kit is on the way, he's gone hunting this weekend but will ship it out to me Monday.  Anyone in Lansing, MI area wanna help me install it?

Thanks

Good choice on Jeff's kit! He is a really nice guy and a great businessman. I'm at about 10,000 miles (including some big air off some train tracks;D) on mine with no signs of wear. You won't be disappointed!

Got Jeffs lift installed, I think I need limiting strap for the rear so my springs dont pop out or pull brake lines apart, the recomened Monroe shocks are much longer and really allow articulation!
just a quick photo in the drive:

I doubt you're gonna pull a brake line apart. I'm running Calmini's 2.5" lift plus a 2" body lift and I'm still ok..just barely though. You can make some little brackets to relocate your e-brake cables quite easily though, that's what I did and it's still holding together.

Shockwave, truck looks great. What rims are those, specifically diameter/width/backspacing/rub?

2001 Vitara 2.0. Jeff's 2" spacer kit, Mustang Shocks, Spidertrax wheel spacers, Superwinch manual hubs, 225/75/r16 Wildcountry XTX.   It looks and feels much better both on and off road! A little bit less power, but not nearly enough to warrant new gears. Thanks to all here for the wealth of information.

Volvo seats?!? I'd love to see a picture of these.  Where they a direct bolt in?  Also what body kit did you install?

Define shaved calipers.... did you have the face milled down? If so how much did you have taken off?
Title: Re: Lets see your ride!!!
Post by: sage705 on April 24, 2010, 10:07:31 PM
Volvo seats are not bolt in. Cut and weld. I will post a pic when I'm done Rhino lining the floor pans. Heater core blew and filled the floor pans with coolant, so carpet had to go.
As for the calipers, I just used a grinder. Not really sure how much I removed, just kept shaving and test fitting till I had clearance.

added a tow bar, powdercoated the wheels black, thule roof basket, bought the plastic nudge bar and painted it black, about to put spotlights on there this weekend, next year its going to get a suspension lift, got to keep it reasonably normal or the missus wont drive it - famous last words eh ?

Some new pics of my Vitara.   I added 31" Trxus MT's on 15" rims off a Plymouth Barracuda 8) I needed to keep my 1" spacers to allow the hub to clear the rims so the tires really stick out now and no more frame rub :)  Also replaced the sagging rear springs with xl7 springs and they are much better! with the stiffer rear springs and wider stance it handles much better you wouldn't even know it has no front swaybar :P

I got the trxus mts because they have really good reviews for glare ice conditions.  We will see...they do have tons of siping and look great...and work really good off road so no complaints yet.

Well, I've finally got some work done to it. It still needs a body lift, bumpers, and rock sliders.

2001 GV 5 speed (85k miles)
Rear Lockrite
5.12 gears
Manual hubs
MUD CHILD's (SRCUSTOMS) 2" suspension lift kit
2" lift springs in the rear from the classifieds on here
Rancho 5158 shocks in the rear (installed perfectly, just *borrowed* the sleeves from the OEM shocks)
245 75 R16 Maxxis Bighorns

Just some minor trimming in the fenders for now, and we removed the back mudflaps. It only rubs under flex, which I'm hoping to fix with a body lift, and limit my trimming. There is no rubbing on the street except for the frame at full cock. I do have camber bolts installed, but I still have some negative camber in the front. The plan is to slot the struts shortly.

When we were picking it up:

And, now:

And this was last night:

A big thanks to MUD CHILD for creating an awesome kit, by the way.

That looks great!

You will have to tell me what you think of the Bighorns.  I had them on my GV for about 30 days and had to take them off.  They were just too loud!  I loved everythig else about them; look, ride handling and traction.  But they were so loud I couldn't hear the radio at 60mph.  Even at 10mph, I questioned my sanity.

Hmm. Yeah, they're a little loud, but I'm used to running 35 MTR's on my old SAS'd sidekick, as well as 35 Toyo MT's on our Dodge diesel. These to me, are relatively quiet. I can listen to the stereo. Maybe it depends on who you are. :) I liked their price the most I think.

this is my newly bought 2002 suzuki vitara for 500$ Canadian. it needed minor rocker fix, the 4x4 motor had a broken wire, front brake pads and needed also both driver side door handles. its now on the road and din't cost me 900$ including the price of the zuk and to put it on the road!! would take another buy like this anytime!!

future mods: 27" to 29" tires, 2" suspension lift and no body lift, maybe bumpers with removable winch.

hay xcabo nice rig. do you have any pics of your front hitch receiver? did yo make it your self or buy it?

Thnxs zuki709

Both hitch were made as a favor from an uncle, The front hitch was only as a light weight adaptor, for my BBQ Grill which has a 2" adaptor, my "T" shape carrier for the kayaks or a cargo hitch basket, I won't mount a winch or shackle to recover on there, only for light stuff.

The hitch is only a 3" square tube 4" lenght welded to another piece (the same tube but cut it to 2") tall to position the receiver lower the plastic fender, then was welded to a 1/4" wall metal plate 10"x10", drilled four holes under the front bumper and screwed with 1/2" screws.

The plastic bumper was cut it to allocate the front part of the receiver, I wanted to look it as flush as possible.

Sorry for the poor quality of pictures, but if you need specific measures just tell me and I can do it.

Assuming both have the same engine - the car with the "better" gearing - which would be the one with the smaller tires.

The black is the 1.6L with 5.125 diffs.. The white is the 2.0L with same diff gearing.

The answer..

It was a tie! We both just sat there digging epic holes in the sand.. lol

Wait a minute - yours is an auto right?  I would have dragged you backwards man ;)

update since i bought it last January, replaced the front bumper with one off a 2000 chevrolet tracker (exact same one) 2" jeff rear suspension lift (front is on hold for now) 225/75/16 Goodyear wrangler duratrac tires and my custom 1" spacer for the rear shock (need longer ones) the rear wheel on the very bottom picture is not touching the ground

Diftoyota, do you get any rubbing with those tyres?

My 225/75R16s rubbed bad on both the front and rear body mouldings..
Title: Re: Lets see your ride!!!
Post by: diftoyota on March 08, 2012, 08:19:10 PM
none besides the frame at full lock on the back side of the tire only, full flex in the rear no issue, the front is not lifted at all yet either. i know if you got remolds/recap tires they will be bigger than standard size by almost an inch, that's what the tire guy told me. do you have those on yours?
Title: Re: Lets see your ride!!!
Post by: diftoyota on March 08, 2012, 08:23:03 PM
here is a pic of were the tire rubs the frame, and an extra one for the front tire view, i can take more if you like, only thing i see different you got flaires around your fenders and i dont and a different bumper. i can post it on the discussion board with my lift kit install, its in the first page

My tires are unmodified BFG 225/75r16s, they rubbing on the moulding directly behind the front tires (didn't notice any frame rub) and the mud guards in the rear..

I trimmed down the rear mud guards, still have to get the front end sorted out. FYI, I have on a 2" suspension lift and a 2" body lift.. and I still get rub..  ???

oh well, hold a vid..

03 vitara sas, 33pro comp extreme mud, 5.13's, locked in rear, custom built long arms, 3 link in back, 4 link in front, with power steering box from 97 sport sidekick, First trip out, one long winter build works fickin awesome

Does anyone know what axle this guy is running up front? I noticed that metoo hasn't been on since 2009 so i thought i'd ask the community.

He said he's running 5.13's so im thinking it might be a Samurai axle? But i've always heard running 33's on a stock Samurai axle isn't a good idea. hmmm......

if they can have a bolt in solid axle kit we can install that as well right? i heard the front diff is swapable from a 1st gen and 2nd gen truck.(maybe im wrong) why it would not fit?

LowRange offroad says the Trailslayer kit works on x90s and vitaras.  I thinks its just that R&P steering that would need to be removed from out vehicles and replaced with something else..maybe from a sidekick?

Price tag is nasty but man do i want that kit!!

It has 5.13 gears in it. I might drop back down to a 31" tire though cause I busted the front diff apart a while back and they seem to be quite pricey and hard to find around me. Hope to have 4x4 again soon though since I found a new diff and cv shafts for $500. Kinda pricey I think but it the only one I've found

Do you get a lot of frame rub or fender scrub on those 33s? They look great on there...
Title: Re: Lets see your ride!!!
Post by: 1badsuki on April 04, 2012, 09:54:48 AM
the tires dont rub much. I have the front bumper trimmed and the rear of the fender trimmed and molded. I have 1" spacers with the stock rimms and they only rub at full lock on the frame a little bit. The backs don't rub at all unless it got it really flexed and the tire is right up inside the fender.

Sounds awesome. You're going to have a lot of fun with that little truck, you'll be surprised. Is this your first 4x4 build or have you built other Suzuki's? Seems a lot of guys here have either had Samurai's or Sidekicks before coming over to the second gen side.

I'm gonna turn it into a hunting/fun ride. I've never owned a Suzuki but I have owned 4x4s since I was 18 starting with a tank 79 ford. I've been wanting a Suzuki for a while now and finally found one for the right price.

I love my truck for hunting and fishing trips.  It fits down all the grown in roads that people around here refer to as "quad trails".  It pulls my 14ft aluminum and trailer with the motor and camping gear and always gets me home.  Right now I'm fixing up an old utility trailer (hopefully run 31's on the trailer to match my truck) because it's a little crammed driving home with a deer in there.

Ha, I couldn't resist when I saw Mudkick's ride... its like they're twins.

2004 GV 2" KORE lift 245 70 15 Nitto all terrains.

Ordered a Zukination extended link kit for the rear and still need to do sliders and rear bumper. probably redo the front bumper as well as I'm not completely happy with it.

mostly done with paint and body, done with the interior as well, got rid of the carpet and painted the floors camo, got rid of the camo roof rack and got the black again on, have cut the bottom half of the bumper as i was tired of loosng the front bumper on every run, now just add ons to do such as black offset wheels, roof lights, winch and maybe custom bumpers. welding the rear differential by the end of the month.

Looks good.  I like the idea of cutting the front bumper.

was the cheapest solution for me to clear it from bushes of tearing it out wile backing up, but i now need a skid plate to protect the lower part of the radiator, its only a 2 inch gap but better be safe than sorry

This is my old 1999 tracker, now it's my girlfriends. Not much done to it, but I just put a set of Boyd cottington 17's with 265/60/17 bag long trail t/a's and 1.25" spacers. I want to level the front and do a 2" body lift and also some zr2 flares. And eventually I'll probably paint it for her.

Also where are you going to look for the ZR2 flares?

Yeah they rub at the back of the wheel wells. I took the fender liners out and trimmed the bumper cover som on the inside bottom to eliminate the rub at the front of the tires. They only rub at almost full lock-full lock turns, like parking in a parking spot ect... Nothing on normal driving.

I am just going to keep looking for a zr2 being parted out or someone just selling the flare separately. I am going to do a temp set of flares just to get it through inspection right now, they won't pass it with the tires sticking out.

Don't they look cute together  :)

Overdrive is a 2002 5 door SQ625 auto currently sporting a slight lift, towbar, extra drawer thingo under drivers seat, DVD screens for the kids, such as rear shock relocators and free wheelin hubs. There are a few more things on the horizin such as front nudge bar, fog lights, spot lights plus maybe a few other bits and pieces but time will tell. I had plans for a aux battery but didn't get there as I now use a Waeco battery pack to run the waeco fridge. I also plug the DVD screens into it as well when it's in the car.

The Blue Baby is a 2 door 2004 SQ420 manual that I picked up for a good price (reflected by it's condition). No real plans apart from using it to teach my kids about cars and how to drive. It currently has 5 door springs in the back along with cheepo shocks. It too will be getting shock relocators and free wheelin hubs. I've gota fix a leaking front axle seal as well so more chance to get the kids involved.

Anyhooo, that's us.

Guess I've never put pics up:

2002 Chevy Tracker 4 door.  2.0L 4 cyl, 5 speed stick, 4wd, power steering, AC, manual windows and locks, blah blah blah.

OME lift springs, struts extenders up front, camber bolts, some kind of longer rear shocks, Curt Class III rear 2" hitch, Dual brand stereo with Infinity 6.5" speakers, deep tint, Bosal cat back exhaust (supposedly not a performance system but sounds nice and I didn't loose any grunt over what the previous hacked together turbo muffler and no resonator setup had), and 235/75R15 BFG AT's on stock rims painted black.

Have a set of older Warn manual hubs for it that will be going on hopefully today.
Hoping to improve/upgrade it a bit.  Been my DD and ignored other than maintenance for almost two years and now it's my only vehicle.  Just trying to keep it reliable, fun, and capable.
VERY tempted to go find a set of 15" aluminum OEM wheels for it.  Not sure if I'll bother though.

Stock as can be '99 Tracker. 5 spd black soft top.
Plans include a lift, possibly a Rock-Steady, not sure which lift to go with yet, a new soft top because this one is in pretty rough shape, rip the carpet out and rhino line the interior, a light bar or brush guard, and some bigger tires... any suggestions for tires? Not that I am going to do this all right away because well, let's face it, the money just isn't there. The lift and tires are my first priorities for it though.

Where are you?

What kind of wheeling do you plan on doing?

Lots of mud?

How big of a lift do you eventually plan on doing?  Will you regear after the lift and bigger tires?

That the 1.6L or the 2.0L 4cyl?
Title: Re: Lets see your ride!!!
Post by: camojoe92 on July 29, 2012, 06:25:55 PM
Located in Ohio, and just some moderate off roading, nothing to extreme. It is the 2.0 4cyl. Maybe find a few trails to get on a little ways down the road after I get some work done on it, but like I said, nothing to extreme. As far as how big of a lift, I was thinking just the RRO Rock-Steady 4" ?? and I was hoping to get some ideas for tires because I am unsure about what would fit without trimming and stuff along with looking good. When it comes to regearing, I have no idea. I was hoping to pick up some knowledge on this site on what to do with it.

235/75R15's will fit you now with no lift.  Will also fit and look good with a 1-2" suspension lift.  Minor rubbing on the frame at max turn if you run them on the stock rims or rims with dimensions similar to the stock rims.  I've got that size on stock rims with a 30mm Old Man Emu spring lift on mine right now and they work great.

You will see a little loss in performance since you're now having to turn taller, heavier tires and you're loosing a little bit of mechanical leverage in your drivetrain.  Should be okay.  Mine is the 2.0L with the 5spd but a 4dr.  It's not bad.  I'd like to regear but it's okay.  Yours will probably be less noticeable thanks to it weighing 2 doors and associated body less than mine.

Any bigger and you'll have fitment issues now.

As for tire type if you want to go mudding get some muds.  Find your favorite brand/price of Radial mud tire in LT235/75R15 and go to town.  Most modern mud terrains are pretty good on the road.  Not as bad as they used to be or Super Swamper Boggers by far.
If you aren't going to point it at the nearest mud hole all the time then consider a set of all terrains.  I used to always get mud terrains but this Tracker came to me with a practically new set of BFG AT's.  I love them.  I don't mud much and the little bit of wet clay of Kentucky that I have experienced with it I have gone through without drama.  That said I know not to point it at a mud pit because they will surely fail me there.
For my next set I may find a set of the more aggressive AT's that are out there now.  Sort of half way between an AT and a MT.  AT like road manners yet more ability to claw through goop and crap offroad but with better road manners than an MT.  Not as good as a true MT in the mud though.

My only question about 4" of lift...having had big tall lifted trucks and SUV's in the past...including a '96 Tracker on 6" of lift and 31's...what do you need that height for?  A good set of tires, some skill, and some skid plating and offroad recovery gear will do everything you mentioned without having to go through all the extra BS of putting on a 2" body lift and wedging taller springs AND coil spacers into the suspension...and then trying to align it.

Function > form.

4" lift = more complication, more variance from stock, more aerodynamic drag, more wear on various parts, and probably looks silly with tires that his little engine and gears can turn or bigger tires that his engine and gears are wheezing to turn and properly would require a gear change to make correct again.

Not worth it to me.  Especially for the use he stated.  My '96 was cool to look at and got a lot of comments.  Wasn't even bad to drive to work and back every day but the lift and big tires made everything so much more complicated.  I'd never do it again.  Not to mention I didn't wheel it much aside from all winter long in Northern Michigan driving through unplowed snow to get to work.  If I had started beating on it offroad that aluminum front diff would be asking for breakage.  Meanwhile it was slow and struggled to get 20mpg.

Well i find 4" lift and lower gears at the diffs to be pretty uncomplicated compared to other brands or solid axle swaps etc.  And lets face it, 31" tires are the minimum size that most trucks run off road.  So that means if you dont have 31's you need to drive like a ninja to follow the ruts in any trail you're going to go on unless it is very very mild.  Yes you CAN get a stock tracker into lots of places but with 31;s you can actually enjoy the ride there and not damage your undercarriage.  Not to mention if you want to go in mud it doesn't matter what kind of tires you have if you are up to your axles. Bigger tires are the only way to raise your axles off the ground.  My advice and speaking from experience is just do the 4" lift off the bat.

If I decided to go with only the 2-2.5" lift should would you recommend a body or suspension lift?

Also, I made a phone call to a local tire place that has pretty good prices and he said his most common is the 235/75/15 Goodyear Wrangler rts and next best would be 235/75/15 Cooper Mastercraft AXTs. Any thoughts or suggestions about those tires?

Thanks for the replies by the way, really appreciate it!!!!

I have the RR 2.5" OME lift, 235/75 tires. No body lift.  You will be amazed at what this truck can do with this setup.

If you are concerned about what your truck looks like, you probably should be driving something else.  :)

Suspension.  Love my OME springs.  Not hot on spacers though.

Ugh, STAY AWAY from the Wrangler RT/S.  POS all season tire that sucks onroad and is horrible off.  Ancient design too.

No experience with the Mastercraft AXT's but their previous generation AT's were pretty good.

Make sure you get LT235/75R15's.  The LT means it's a Light Truck tire.  The tire carcass is designed for truck use.  Don't let them sell you a cheaper P235/75R15.  That's a tire in a truck size but built to passenger car tire specs, even if it has mud or all terrain tread.  Lame and weak.  If you're going to use your 4x4 as a truck and 4x4 buy 4x4 tires.  Usually less than $100 difference per set.

I think its a Westin.  Its really not that great but it gives a little bit of protection when climbing down off a slab.

If you're doing a 2" lift only then for sure go with the suspension lift.

Body lift just fits an inch bigger tires.  Well, the other thing the body lift does is keep your rockers from being damaged because on these vehicles the frame and rocker panel are level with each other.  You will notice on most pickups or jeeps the frame is lower than the rockers.

Wish I had done the BL same time as the suspension I would not have destroyed my rockers.  But my inner cheapo was telling me that BL's are useless and that a susp lift was good enuf. That and I read some crap that BL raises the centre of gravity more. But in hindsight that makes no sense, a susp lift raises it more because it is raising the whole vehicle not just the cab.

ahhh I went wheeling last night! it was deep and muddy and i painted my truck brown...2 zuks, no one got stuck, no one broke anything ;D

White is a great color for an off road vehicle.  It really hides the scratches and if you live where I do the trail are very grown in you get steady scraping of the sides.. You only notice those scratches on mine if you look just in the right light.

You'll find plenty of info and helpful people on here.

Here's my '99 Tracker. It's my daily driver that I use to commute 115 miles 1 way to work. I just picked up the Eagle Alloy 16's with the 245/50's for a steal. I know most of the guys on here like 'em lifted, but this works just fine for me! (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/tallicamom/427073_3965103280112_1407585402_n.jpg) Oh yeah... Being an early model it had the washer under the bonet next to the radiator. I relocated it to inside the guard using a later models washer. Also had to move the rad overflow bottle to oposite side.

From there i made my own tray and fitted a D34 optima yellow top. Isolation is controled by an automatic redarc 100amp isolator. Since photo was taken i have replaced the Delcor battery with a N70ZZL (700CCA) and installed a battery monitor to keep an eye on the state of charge in the 2 batteries.

hay bush buster what are the rims on the white vitara off of? and are they 15 or 16?

Oops, it's been a while since i've been on here. The rims cam off a ford truck but the guy told me they originally came off a barracuda. They required wheel spacers to fit as well as lower profile bolt heads on the hub bolts.

I think he was mistaken.  Plymouth Barracuda's used a 5x4" bolt pattern.  Much smaller than our 5x5.5" pattern.

However Barracuda's did have a similar wheel to your "Turbine" style rim.  He may have meant that or been confused by it.

Last I knew Silverstone (and the Simex tires they are modeled after) aren't available in the US/Canadian market.  Supposedly you can get them imported through some online tire dealers overseas but no clue on the veracity of that.

The Simex and Silverstone tires are brand new tires.  If someone in NA makes a recap with a similar tread than that's something else.

Interesting, either the old guy was full of it (don't know why he would make that up) or his memory is failing after all these years! He was scrapping the old F150 so it had probably been a while. Oh yeah, they're 15".

Im running 31x10.5 16 Silverstone Xtremes and what i had to do so the wouldnt rub inside the front guards was remove the inner plastic guard and flatten the panel lit a bit.

There is nothing you can really do about them rubbiung on the chasis as the GV's dont have steering stops.

Really close. Actually rubs when turning in reverse.

Marked where it needs more clearance.

Lots of mud behind plastic panel

Fold flap straight then hammer flat.

All flattened and sprayed black

Heaps more space.

Gained about 10-15mm and took about 1/2 hour to do.

Finally got the tires and rims mounted on the ZR2.   Running Jeffs Coil and strut spacers, as well as Doetsch tech shocks. 30X9.5" General Grabber AT2's on 15x7" rims (had to grind the calipers slightly.   Have the BL sitting in the shed, but the weather and homework haven't allowed me to install it yet.    Im going to reinstall the rear bumper after the BL, and leave the front off until I can find something better.  Haven't had much rubbing yet.   but I know I will need to do some trimming and banging.   Work in progress...

I love the blue wheels, very cool look.  8) Nice picture too with the old grain elevator in background. What is the part number of the shocks?? That is, if they work good.

I believe they r DT3180.   They work great! have a sweet ride too.   haven't flexed them out fully, need to trim and BL 1st,   but Bushbuster has them on his rig with XL7 springs and its quite a tight set up!

I posted some flex shots of my dt3180's a while back.

Still holding up well. My opinion is the mustang shocks are a total waste of money if you're gonna use them a lot, they simply do not take the abuse. Especially with the trunk loaded with camping gear etc.

Hello guys, I'm new in the group.
I just installed on my 2002 Chevy Tracker a lift kit which is between 2" and 3" (you can see it in the photos).

I was trying to install a 235/75R15 tires but unfortunately they doesn't fit, when steering turns  the tire hits the fender and the control arm. If you see my car, it has the stock wheels with no offset at all. Would that be the problem?

I'm frustrated because I have seen really nice trackers and vitaras lifted and with tires upgrades even higher than 235/75R15 and I'm unable to upgrade my ride.
