I'm working on a 96 Tracker 16 valve, 88,000 miles. "Check engine soon" light is on.
Does it turn on at 80,000 miles like my '90 8 valve engine? If so where is the switch to turn it off?
I don't have a manual on this one.
Thanks,
Sam

The 96 Might have the switch (a little one)behind the left front dash speaker.

Same pic I posted.
I always forget who did it. ;D
I'm also not sure on all what years it was on.

96 and up have the ODBCII system, you need to go visit your local auto shop and borrow their computer to see what the problem is. Probably the EGR vavle...

yea... i gots the 96

Mine is still one... :P
There are lots of good troubleshooting articles. Usually you can pull the EGR valve off and clean the carbon and such out of all the lines then bolt it back together.
If you leave the battery unplugged for a few hours it clears the alarm.

Thanks for the info I plugged my scanner in and erased the trouble code. Light went out.
We'll see if the trouble code comes back on. It was EGR flow.
Thanks again,
Sam

I used a scan tool and the oxygen sensor was the culprit. I replaced it and cleared the code by disconnecting the battery. Now it's ok again.
