Well, I got a used 5spd trans for my '94 Sidekick from a local JY. Only $350 for both t-case and trans with only (allegedly) 46k miles. Gonna perform the surgery this weekend, but have a few questions: First, will I be able to pull the trans/t-case without removing the exhaust. I really don't want to have to cut out the rusty exhaust....it'd just be another expense to have to replace it. Also, any words of advice or caution? I've got a complete Exedy clutch kit and a new flywheel. Got a new clutch cable just in case and plenty of gear oil. I've replaced the clutch a few times in my mustang so I'm thinking I can handle the 'kick.
Any help/suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks,
WES

If theres any possible way you can use a garage with a lift do it!!! I just got a new job as a mechanic and lifes never been easier with a lift..

As far as exhaust goes:
Undo all the necessary bolts and parts in order to pull the tranny/t-case back from the engine.
Next, support the tranny/t-case, and remove the cross member that the t-case mounts onto.
Next, get a buddy or a good jack to support it all and lower it down, without having to touch the exhaust.
Don't forget to remove both shifters.
Don't forget to remove the flywheel inspection plate.
Don't forget to remove the starter.
Don't forget to drain the t-case before you pull the front and rear d/shafts out of it.
I did all this weekend before last. It's not so much fun by yourself, but it's do-able. Just be sure to allow yourself plenty of time.
Installing the clutch is the easy part. It's just jerking around with the bulkiness of the tranny getting it out, then getting it back in.

Thanks for the replies. I think I have everything covered. Picked up a trans jack at Harbor Freight so I'm good to go....just wish I had a lift. Oh well, I'll just put it as high as can on the jack stands.
Hey Beercheck, I've been there before. Pulled the motor and trans as one unit out of a T-bird once and forgot to drain the trans. Sure enough, ATF poured out of the tailshaft. Damn! What a mess that was! Ahh, the stupid things we do.

Make sure you don't get it too high up, or you jack may not be able to reach the tranny. I gave myself plenty of working room, but my jack (that lifts up 24") couldn't reach. Another PITA.
