I HAVE A 1991 SAMMY WITH A LOCKRIGHT IN THE REAR AND WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT IT POPS AND JERKS. I TOOK IT BACK AND SAMS OFFROAD REPLACED IT AND IT WAS FINE FOR A WEEK AND THEN DID IT AGAIN.
HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS PROBLEM?/?
IS IT POSIBLY THE REAR AXLE IS BENT??
THANKS NAZHOG

Does it pop right after turning a corner and then driving straight? Does it click more than once as your driving straight? Do both of your tires have the same air pressure?

if you are wondering if the rear axle is bent take it to an alignment shop and have them check it.

this rearend clicks taking off sraight and then a loud bang then jerks right.ive had many lockrights in jeeps and never had one do this.
it clicks running 40 mph then pops real loud .
if you look at the rearend going down the road the left side leans in at top.
it only pops on left side.

You need to have tires on the back that have the same wear or diameter on the out side and tire pressure and try to run them at a higher tire pressure like say 30 psi and see if that helps, you may have to run a tape around them to see if they are the same size.

Possible reasons...
1) Bent tube
2) worn sidegears
3) stuck pins
p.s. lunchbox lockers suck. I found this out in a manner much like you.

Sounds like your tires are different diameters.
I had trouble with Lockrights that replace the side gears. Since going to the kind that use the stock side gears I've not had any problems, I believe they tolerate a slightly bent housing better...

Make sure the bolts that hold the rear axle in are tight. When the shop put my loc rite in they did not tighten the back bolts enough and Locker was popping a lot and the brakes felt like they has lumps in them. Took the back tires off and tightned the bolts by the drums and that fixed the problems.

I've never had a LockRite but I saw this thread on Difflock that might offer some clues
