Since I got my Tracker it occasionally makes a squeeling noise that I have thought might be a belt slipping. It does this mainly in cold or wet weather. Usually it stops after driving for a minute or two. Lately it has been doing it whenever the revs are below about 1300 rpm and hasn't been going away. Does this sound like a belt problem or possibly a bearing problem in the water pump. Or something else entirely. If I lived in a hot climate I would say my Tracker runs like new, but it doesn't like cold weather much.

Ice/water on the belts, I just had the same hing right after washing the truck. the temp was just at freezing and I went into the storte for a few when I cam e out and took of the squeel started, as soon as I got pulled over it stopped. I am sure it was just water.

Check the bolts on the alternator,
there are 2 on the bottom and the
one that tensions the belt. I have
trouble from time to time with the
bolts loosening and falling out, I'm
about to get rid of the bolt in favor
of a pin and a lock ring, would make
changing the Alt easy too, the top
bolt needs to be tightened good to
keep the belt from slipping, I stick
a big wrench or screwdriver in the
gap between the engine and the
altenator and get the belt good and
tight, then snug that bolt on the top
good, and locktite it so it will stay in
