Title: Replacement Seats
Post by: dbr on July 05, 2007, 04:16:21 PM
Who makes a decent drop in replacement set of front seats for a price that's not too bad?

Or seats out of another type of vehicle that drop right in and bolt up?

I don't think there is a drop in seat for the Zuki. All the mounts are different. The closest that I remember are the seats out of late 80's early 90's Mitsubishi cars, I can not remember the name of it right now. They have a flat bottom kinda like the Zuki seats. You would just have to fab up some new mounts. And they are way more comfy than the POS's that come in the Zuki. I have a set in my shop that I have never mounted that I am thinking of getting rid of.

That leads to the next option. Get a set of racing buckets from Jegs, Summit or any other speed shop and a set of mounts from Spidertrax. That is what I will be putting in my Zuk instead of the Mitsubishi seats.

I snagged some dragster seats from Summit.  They had a simple 4 bolt setup on the bottom, you could rig up a mount to the existing rails pretty easily.

Otherwise you can adapt the universal seat sliders they sell with them pretty easily.

A lot of conversion projects are out there on the internet. Unfortunataley, all require some fabbing - usually welding up an adapter to a set of samurai seat  brackets.

A good starting point for seat articles is a search at Ack's FAQ (the link is in my signature below) for seat.

I have Tracker seats in my Samurai.  They are a big improvment over Samurai Seats but sit a little high - even though I am only 5'9".  If you are tall, this might not be the best choice in seats.

Hope that this helps!

I put dodge neon seats on the original sammy rails, just had to cut the dodge rails off and they bolted to the sammy rails with no problem.  My only problem was the donor car was a 4 door and they dont tip foreward.  Next time I change out seats, I will either install racing seats, or I would like to try to install miata seats since they are leather and have speakers in the headrest.  Would make hearing the radio with the top off better.

isuzu rodeo seats make a nice swap. about a 1" spacer on the inboard  rails is all that is needed. much more comfort and support over stock seats .
