Title: putting engine of 93 Sidekick JS (2 wheel drive stick shift) in 97 Sidekick 4Wd
Post by: Flyingwheel on July 07, 2007, 10:33:12 PM
I am trying to put the engine of 93 Sidekick JS 2 wheel drive stick shift in 97 Sidekick 4Wd  automatic.

I would like to keep the transmissions the way they are , that is change just the engine.

so I am wondering if it would work?

would there be a problem because of engine size? the body? the fact that one has manual one has automatic transmission? or because one is  JX 4 wheel drive and the other is JS 2 wheel drive?

I would like your point of views Fellows...

Thank you  all!

It should bolt up but theyre 2 different engines.  The 93 is an 8 valve and the 97 is a 16 valve which means youll be losing power..youll have to swap the ecm and the wiring harness

It is quite possible his 93 has a 16 valve motor. So they'd be of the same size, if so.

However, the issue he's going to run into is the fact that a 97 is OBDII (the emissions/computer system), so yes, he'll have to change out the wire harness. Or, I guess that if he takes the intake off the 97, and puts it on the 93, that everything might work.

I believe that if you swap an early 16V into a late 16V you will also need to swap in the Crankshaft Position Sensor which would need the later sump and possibly oil pump?
