Title: CHERRY BOMB!!!!
Post by: bus_driver on July 09, 2007, 05:09:24 PM
ok had to put a catalytic converter on the kick today as i legally have to and the smell is really bad without.....so i went to canadian tire and and picked up a 2inch - 2.25 inchadapter and pipe then got a cherry bomb glasspacked muffler.

i welded it all up and unfortunately i need a new exhaust gasket since it leaks a little but i sure does sound mean....need to tip it down and out  since it is just dumping right out the bomb at my axle area.

my wife was like " it sounds like a corvette!!"

my goal was too do a cheap replacement as the original 2inch catless straight back was like 200bucks and this cost me 54.00 and some burns...dont weld in shorts!!

i like it but it does drone a little insid the truck but that should be a little better when i put the tip on it.

nah not really it sound deeper not like an angry weed snipper  and it does not bubble when i let the gas off either....smooth aswell. so when i fix the gasket it should be even nicer\
i will let my wife drive it so i can hear it from outside. maybe i will take a clip and post it so we can hear it

ok went and got chinese for dinner and that was normal driving, played with the Rpm's a little and it is the best over 3000 or it drones inside the truck. fron outside i will find out tomorrow when my wife drives it. i don't think it is ricy since the engine is more like a VW 1.8 and they have a different sound then a honda engine. it is definitely deeper and really smooth. i know the ricer hatred thing i do hate them. i like the sound sofar.

but for 55 bucks i am not changing anyways.

Well I'm due for a New Muf on the 2dr Kick
Don't really like the Turbo Muf
We'll see how it sounds.
I'll wait for you sound posting ;) ;D
Don't want a Ricer sound but something more muscular.

Funny, I HAD a glasspack on for the last two years. Yes, I *did* sound like a ricer. Actually, maybe, more like a low flying Cessna. It was a 13$ muffler job before I went to Moab in 2005.

It finally wore on me - and just last week I put a regular old muffler on it. It's SO much quieter, and the reverberations no longer come through the cab. :)

I have a 2" cat-back exhaust on my Sidekick 4 door with a Cherry Bomb glasspack. I think it sounds fantastic like this! It's so much more deep and throaty and it doesn't sound like a ricer at all. It's loudest from about 2000-3000 rpm, after that it's just pure power.

Another option might be no muffler at all ...

My pipe is cutoff just behind the cat, and it actually isn't too loud

hey olija does that mean you have a catalytic converter and the o2 sensor behind it.

hey Bigred i got my wife to drive the truck ....you can hear the leak at the manifold so that sucks but i does not sound like a ricer...yeee hah!! it is definately a deep low sound. and it is louder than my last exhaust. i tried to take a video for you but the program will not recognize the file so a friend is coming over tonight with his video cam. will try to post it tomorrow.

sweet, bus_driver do you have a cat and the o2 sensor
and does anyone know what it would soundlike with a header and a cherry bomb setup

BigRedZuki, I am still running the cat and o2 sensor.

I wouldn't bother with the header unless yours is an 8 valve. I've heard the 16 valve exhaust manifold flows well enough to nullify any gains a header would add.

and here is the other pass. bigred i do have a full cat and o2 sensor infact i went from catless 2 inch to with cat and 2.25 and there is now more punch in each gear i think mostly due to no bends in the pipe just straight back i will just dump it down infront of the axle. i really hope that there is no casting problem as it seemed tight but leaks all round the joint. i was going to take a picture of the actual exhaust but you know what one looks like so never mind

yeah it does have a nice sound plus that is also with the modified air box (drilled like swiss cheese) but the two together are nice....i did have a little issue today when dthe hanger disconected and it needed a quick fix on the side of the highway. but i really want to fix the manifold.

I have a Cherry Bomb muffler on my 16v, it sounds just like my old Civic, just not as loud. I love it ;) I especially like it when the civic's and neon's pull beside me at a stop light, they look at me funny when we take off  :D

Right now, mine stops at the end of the muffler, I didn't get an over-axle pipe made yet, but I did clamp on a reducer at the end of the muffler to tone down the loudness and vibration in the cab.

However, I am changing the exhaust soon, allthough I do like the sound, every trip out wheeling I brake something related to the exhaust... or pull it off the hangers. I want to run 2" straight back with a supertrapp slip-on like Zig and Mike have.

my wife was like " it sounds like a corvette!!"

Take a listen to "wow" on the watercooler.

I wonder if they left the cat on that one. ;D

Lil Suzy (1.6 8V) runs a Calmini header to 2.5 inch pipe into a high flow cat then on to a glass pack (I think it is a Thrush) and on to the back bumper using the shortes route possible. the pipe is almost straight. I have been told that it does not sound at all like a four banger. the sound is deep and rich, I am very happy with it.

I run 2.5" from the Thorley back with a couple of slight offsets to tuck it to the floor and to a flowmaster offset and 2" out the back like a stocker.  No cat allowed!!!!   I have been told by several people that it sounds like an extreme chainsaw!!!!  Very deep tone but screams though the gears and mellow at 40 in 4th. 8)

The glasspack/cherrybomb I run on my 97 1.8L is getting a little "burned" out. It pops every time I let out of the gas. It really rumbles out of the 16"x3" stainless tip. The sound is not like anything else, not a tuner car and definitely not a v8 truck ,but it still sounds pretty cool.

i got 2 cherry bombs on mine , 2" joined before the 2.5" tip. sounds fantastic, blew the flowers out of the garden, but i wish i would have dumped it out the pasenger side, would have been a bit easier on the ears.
