So I am a new owner (2 days now) of a 95 geo tracker 2wd 5spd and I bought it as a project car I guess and I am finding problems faster than I can figure things out about this umm....car? jeep? iono how you guys classify this toy. Well my turn signal was acting funny, making blinker noise but the blinker wouldnt work. Well today i went to check out what was wrong w/ it and turned the car on and it started smoking from the steering column. Turned it off and took the assembly off and sure enough the circuit was shorted and burned. What years and brand cars can a replace my unit with. I'm finding out there are so many different manufacturers yet ultimately the same car?
Another problem I am having is the clutch pedal is extremely stiff. There is very light pressure very early on and about half way it becomes very stiff to press in. Previous owner told me the clutch is new. I'm thinking clutch cable? It's non-hydro correct? I looked around online and i've been seeing some CA version and non-CA versions or something like that? How do i know which one is for my car? Also the shifting is very stiff as well. Hard to put into gear, reverse grinds when going in, if it goes in. I usually have the car off and put it into reverse then crank it up. When i do this i noticed the car creeps backwards as it is cranking(clutch not fully disengaged?) What model suzuki tranny could i replace mine with? Does the tranny matter if it came off of a 2wd or 4wd?
Oh yeah one last fix i really want to do...the air comes out from lower or front window vents but not the front vents. Doesnt seem to have a problem moving the leaver for selection of which vent i want on. Also my unit doesnt have A/C, not sure if this makes any kind of difference. I'll be on here reading alot since i dont have work for the next 2 days hope to hear from some of ya, and thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum. There is a lot of information on here, you'll usually find that someone else has already had your problem. The search facility works well, For technical stuf I find it best to use the advanced search and just check the Suzuki Forum. If you search for clutch cable or stiff clutch there are a couple of posts. You should fix it soon before the pedal snaps off :o
What to call it? Not Jeep, lol maybe car/truck/trucklet. For me Zuk works best ;D

ya i just joined not to long ago myself. just wanted to let you know how many crazy ideas and stories i've read on here. lots of helpful info on here just need lots of time to search around and read through it all. enjoy

found a junk yard that had a new turn signal assembly....cost 75 dollars and now its replaced and working. F-yeah!
Now I was wondering, i found a guy somewhat locally who has a tranny 5spd but its from a 4x4 however I have a 4x2...would his work with my engine? If i were to take off the very end part of my tranny where the shaft to the rear axle connects to and put it onto this new tranny would it be compatable? Here is a picture of his tranny if it makes any difference.

It does not sound like you need a trans, yet. I would adjust the clutch or have someone adjust it for you if your not comfortable doing it. Removing the trans in a 2WD should be straight forward to inspect the clutch BEFORE buying another trans.

Where are you at? I have a 2wd trans I will never use most likely and if you needed one I would sell it cheap, pick up only though. I am in Ohio. But, like I said hopefully you dont need one. :-\

I'm in alaska...i'm getting a new cable tomorrow and going to install it. Hopefully it will fix things...

I replaced with a new clutch cable and that made a world of a difference. It doesn't grind gears anymore either, well atleast not yet. I noticed alot of oil over my tranny....is there a common place where the oil leaks from? How can we check the level of the oil in the tranny? And where is the fill plug for the tranny? Thanks

Fill plug is on the side of the trans, an allen head plug if I am not mistaken. You check the fluid at that hole while sitting on level ground, when you put your finger in the plug hole you should have oil at the level of the hole or a little bit down. When I fill mine I let it get up to and start to run out of the hole before putting in the plug. You will most likely need a little pump that goes on the oil bottle with a hose to fill the trans.

You can see both the plugs in that pic. The fill plug is the one on the side, the drain plug is the one on the underside at the rear.

yeah i noticed that once g-man mentioned it. Any idear where the oil is coming from?

Check around the area where the shifter goes in.
