Title: How do I plug the idle bypass??

Getting tired of the 2000rpm cold idle... makes me cringe every time!

I've read threads here that say to plug the idle bypass... but how exactly do you do it?

Appreciate help with this

The 'cold' idle is completely adjustable to what ever idle speed you desire. I suspect that you might have adjusted the 'cold' idle mistaking it for the warm or regular idle circuit. So, here we go: The 'cold' idle is located at the back of the carb closest the firewall in the linkage assembly and is the most obvious one. That should be adjusted when the vehicle is cold and needs to warm up. It can be 'over adjusted' so that cold idle is crazy fast and then it'll settle down once warm to a 'normal' idle. This is incorrect. There is a second idle circuit that is located at the base of the carburator closest the inner fenderwell. That is the one to adjust for warm idle. You will need to back of the 'cold' idle so that it is not interfering and then adjust the 'warm' idle to 600-800 rpm.

This assumes that your accessory on 'idle up' circuit (the third and final way to adjust idle speed) is not getting in the way and with all your accessories off and an altitude below 5000 feet you should be fine.

Oh yeah, check for vacuum leaks! :)

My 8v kicks off high idle in about 10-15 seconds when cold, and starts at 800 when warm ...

If yours takes longer then perhaps you have other "issues" to investigate.

Does it evenually kick off the "high idle" or not? If so, how long does it take?

Mine runs at 2000+ rpm for 5 minutes or more :P I am thinking it might be related to the engine rpms going up and sometimes surging when I turn on the lights or fan.
