Finally got around to making my diff drop bracket
2 pieces of 1/4" plate cut to suit
1 piece of 2x2 square tube with 1/8" wall thickness cut 1.25"
Drill 4 - 7/16" holes in each 1/4" plate to allow mounting to diff and A-arm.
Using a hole saw drill a 1.5" hole in the center of both 1/4" plates to allow clearance for bolt on A-arm and water drainage on the diff side.
Weld together
Overall length of bracket is 1.75" which allows stock bolts to still fit between the 1/4" plates when mounting to the diff.
I used 4-3/8" coarse bolts that were 1.5" in length with a flat washer and lock washer to bolt to the A-arm.
Hope this helps someone else

hey man ill pay you $50 to make me one that drops the rear diff 3in...im in need of one bad
-
I wasn't trying to make these for selling, but I can make you one up if you would like. PM me your personal info and I'll make it over the weekend.
Jim
-
I'll tell ya, if someone did make these, they could make an easy $50 a pop, since they're not available for sale anywhere at the moment.
-
He's makin me one for $50 ;D
-
I'll make it on Sunday, if you're happy with it I can make more for others if needed. I'll include the hardware for bolting it in so that it's al ready to go when you get it.
:)

Nice work.I am a firm believer in never buying what I can build.
-
I agree, I just locked the rear end using spider gears, actually my friend did the locking, works mint at no cost but time. A lockrite to my door is about 450 Canadian. :o

Hey Museboy
Here's your 3" diff drop bracket, I sprayed it with bed liner spray, can't gaurantee the paint job but the steel work should be fine. Abuse the hell out of it and let me know how it stands up.
I'll ship it tomorrow.

SWEET!!!! From the second picture it looked alot larger then 3in and i got worried...but then i looked at the pic with the tape measure up against it and i was like HELL YAA!! You dont know how much i appreciate this!!
-
No Problem man, I'll pick up the hardware tomorrow and ship it. I already bolted it onto a worn out diff and spare a-arm on the bench and it all fits fine so you should be good to go. Just use your original bolts to bolt it to the diff and the new grade 8 bolts, nuts, flat washer and lock washers to connect it to the A-arm.
I really would like you to abuse it to see how it holds up, I can always use 3/8" plate and a heavier wall tubing if there are any problems, but I don't think there will be. I contemplated putting a few gussets in on yours since it was 3" but that makes it more difficult for wrenching later on, lets just see how it performs like this.

I thought it would also need to be mounted forward a little bit to help with the pinion angle??
-
Guess we'll find out when he bolts it in, if it needs to be corrected it won't be a problem to make another one with the necessary changes.
Jim
-
Well when you started this post you had a pic of yours bolted on the truck...hows it holdin up?
-
Good so far, but mines much shorter then yours, I Think Mike was worried about the angles due to length. If yiu need it changed then I'll just another one for you.
Jim

ok well we'll see

After reading Crikey Mikes input I was thinking that he may be right about the offset. Anyone running a 3" suspension lift be able to measure how much offset would be ideal?
I worked out the following, if I cut the 2" square tube at the following angles the offset that would be achieved.
90 degrees = 0 offset
85 degrees = 0.219" offset
80 degrees = 0.441" offset
75 degrees = 0.670" offset
70 degrees = .0910" offset.
If someone with that lift would be able to measure then the bracket could be made to suit.

Hey jimiweld im running a 3in suspension lift...well not a true 3in suspension lift but i have 2in spacers and 1in coil expanders in the back so that adds up to 3in of rear lift...now what do you want me to measure?? ???
-
You requested a 3" spacer, and it seems you have 3" of suspension lift so the height you gave me is acurate. I think what Crikey Mike was saying, and this makes sense is that as you seperate the diff mount from the A-arm there will be a slight horizonal change. So instead of just droping it 3" we should have offset the top and bottom plate a bit. This would be very hard for you to measure, I was hoping someone who is already running this set up would chime in.
When my bracket arrives try bolting it to the diff, then try bolting the A-arm on, if it seems like you are having to force it to make it go then we will need to offset it. Try to get a feel for what would allow it to bolt up and I'll make another one, it's very quick for me. Don't worry, I'm not going to charge you for something that doesn't work.
I'll see If I can work it myself by the pinion angle and the height.
Jim
-
Ok well ive seen people run those spacers with no offset but ill try it on mine...do you want me to send the money i owe you now or after it arrives??
-
Just wait and see how it works.
Jim
-
Cool...thanks alot man :)
-
I would use thicker steel that 1/4" plate for the top n bottom of the rear diff to 3rd link. I used 3/8" steel with 2.5" od 1/4" wall pipe to make mine and ended up bending the 3/8" plate all the hell on some rocks. Make it STRONG... Use 1/2" plate if ya have it as it will bend from torque load and twist from the rear axle housing.

Right on, good to know, I'll build it out of the 1/2" plate then. What about offset of the two plates?
Jim
-
I had to build mine with the bolt holes offset front to rear to account for the angle difference.
-
How much suspension lift did you have and what was the offset you used?
Thanks
-
I have 4" of lift in the rear of my Kick with XJ coils and never put any offset in for the top plate. The pinion points perfectly to the t-case just at the right angle. Any more than 4" of lift and YES I would suggest the top plate be offset to achieve proper pinion angle.
Kelly
-
whateverworks...how tall was your spacer?
-
1.75" spacer in front and no spacers in the rear as I am running Heep XJ coils in the rear till my parts truck comes home with +2" GV coils made by BDS get here then out come the shitty spacers for some real springs.

Thanks Kelly
The 3" spacer I made him should be fine as far as angle goes then and alright for now if he doesn't beat on it. In the mean time I'll make some stronger ones as you suggested.
I work in mississauga, we should get out sometime and do some wheeling, like to see your rig.

Hey Jimiweld
I may have seen yers before... I believe your kick is gun metal grey with a flat matte paint on 31's? I live in brampton and think I bumped into ya at the end of june before I went to suzican. Ya get in touch as I no of no places to wheel around here... Used to living in Durham Region for 22 years and know ny way around there.
Here is a pic of my junk...

Talk at ya soon...
Kelly

dont worry jimiweld i dont beat on mine bad enough to bust that steel
-
Make em thick... Tis cheep insurance... Believe me.
Kelly

Mine's made from 5/16ths plate and seems plenty strong enough. I'd have to crawl underneath to measure the offset, but I can tell you that the top rear holes line up with the bottom front holes. Hope that makes sense. Basicly, I just made the top plate that bolts to the center link twice as long as the bottom plate that bolts to the diff.
-
Did we actually meet or just drive by? I saw another one like mine in Brampton once and thought maybe it was yours but looks like you got a 4 door? Mine used to be silver then I painted flat black over the winter, it is on 31's but there's one up around where I work (airport road and derry) that is almost the same. I live down in Burlington and I know a few spots. There's one young guy over on Hwy 6 that we can wheel at, he's got a 2 door on 38's.
I agree stronger is better, all I had in the shop on the weekend was 1/4 plate so that's what I made it out of.
I'll PM you my contact info.

Hmmm
May have been the one on Airport road as I think it was a bit taller than yers and he had factory bumpers on it still... Also he had the same style wheels that I have... Or they were something painted black... Now sure... only saw it once. It's actually the only Track/Kick I have seen lifted out this way.

Yah, I've only seen that one out in Mississauga. Theres at least 5 or 6 in burlington/Hamilton area. I've wheeled with BFM from this site as well, he knows a spot in Mississauge where we can go, we'll have to hook up with him and Bus_Driver sometime.

Hey Jimiweld,
I got your spacer today and i must say its of good quality :) I put it in after work and it bolted up perfectly. In some strange way it actually improved my pinion angle. The spacer just pushed the a-arm back into its original position. I drove around with it on and i have no complaints. I didnt go wheeling yet cause im still waitin on longer shocks, strut spacers, and my 31s to come in...but ill let you know if it holds up. But i doubt there will be any problems...THANKS AGAIN!!!
-
No problem man, try beating on her when you're ready to go and let me know how she holds up. Glad you like it.

i want-need one you gonna make more!!!!
-
No problem, just send me a pm with what you need (size) and I'll make it.
