Title: 96 Tracker Passenger side steering knuckle/bearing/wheel studs/etc assembly q's?
Post by: AJMBLAZER on July 29, 2007, 06:28:19 PM
So the Tracker's passenger side wheel bearing is starting to growl when I turn and it has load on it.  Meanwhile that side only has 4 wheel studs because the hole somehow got hogged out and brand new wheel studs just spin in it.

I'm thinking about going to the 'yard and picking up a whole new assembly...everything between the strut and the ball joint basically.

Did anything change between '89 and '98 on these that would matter?
If I find one with ABS will that pose any difficulties?  I figure I can just cut the cord and leave the ABS sensor be.
Can I use a knuckle assembly off of a 2wd?  I know the 2wd to 4x4 conversion isn't hard on these and I never hear about people swapping out the knuckles...

Anybody got one of these on a parts vehicle?  Need some other stuff as well.

The 2wd knuckle will probably have a cap welded over the back side where the CV would go through on a 4wd one, other than that they should be mechanically the same. Also check the lower ball joint mount, where it bolts to the A-arm. Some bolt underneath the arm and some slide into the end of the arm then bolted. It would make life easier if you make sure to match whatever you already have...

I've got the Calmini arms.  They slide into the end of the arm if I'm not mistaken.  I'm going to try and reuse them assuming I can get the knuckle off.
