Title: Door removal kit?
Post by: pjs97talon on August 04, 2007, 06:11:24 PM
Does anyone make a kit that would make removing the doors on a Tracker/Sidekick simlpe? I would like to be able to remove them and put them back on without having to spend hours doing it. Plus are there tube doors out there or are those a "make them if you want them" kinda thing?

As far as I can tell, there is no door removal upgrade for the TracKick - yet.

TracKick tube-doors are a self-fab project at this point...

i gotta get on chopping up my spare set of doors.. the summer is almost over....  :(

easiest thing to do to make the doors easier to remove is to toss the little C clips that hold the hinges in.  That way you just pop out those 2 hinge pins, the the door guide thing limits outward movement and your good.

Shouldnt take more than 10 minutes tops then to take off both doors.

My hinge pins were 'rivetted'. I cut off the tops, knocked them out and then fitted the earlier type with the C clips. If I did it again I would drill out the pins, the hinges are quite soft and distort easily. The pins are difficult to get out because they are painted over after assembling and are knurled at one end. Cleaned up and lubricated they go in come out easily.

Used to take the doors off my '96 Tracker all the time.  Once, though, the door guide slipped into the door and fell to the bottom, never to be seen again.  Watch out for that.

I think I'm going to look into figuring something out over the winter. I have seen pins with a small ball at one end that might work as hinge pin replacements. (by ball- I mean like a ratchet has where the socket won't fall off.) I would need to find some that were the right size, but if I do- it would make removing the doors alot easier. Someone needs to make some tube doors!!
