Title: quick boot for cv.....haha....good one....quick??
Post by: geeeeoooo on August 09, 2007, 07:34:18 PM
well, last night i "solvent welded" the 2 halvs of the boot....let it dry over night, then today was when the fun was had. there is a 2 part adaptor for the boot to the cv on the "small" side, these were ridiculus, nothing but trouble, the solvent was too slippery, and the thing squirted into the boot, while trying to retrieve the stupid thing part of the boot ripped and i was alredy out of glue, i tried 5 min epoxy, didnt work, i then tried some super glue gel....stuff works excellent as there is minimal movement at that end.....got it all done, then the clamps were too large to clear the knuckle, so i scooted the boot to the edge and clears...then the other end wouldnt stay put! on the small end i resorted to some plastic tie wraps on the cv to keep it from sliding back....all in all, it took about a day for this so called quick boot to be installed and the glue to dry.....DONT BUY THESE THINGS....just wanted to tell you guys....

Yep.  Split boots suck.

I installed a set on a Military truck (Pinzgauer 710M) and they were pretty worthless.

If anyone is interested in putting regular replacement boots on their CV shafts, do a search for CV at Ack's FAQ (the link is in my signature).  Click on the second link in the resulting search for a tutorial on how to disassemble the one of the CV joints so you can slip new boot onto the unit.  It's really simple!

Ya i have put on CV boots on many newer toyotas.
And one of my buddies bought the two part one and wanted me to put it on. I think i spent more time messing with it than with a normal boot. After a while of frustration, i just told him to go get a soild boot. (He was too cheap to buy a solid one, appeartly the two peice ones were very cheap)

So all and all, i deffinatly agree with geeeeoooo's post....they are a nightmare!
