Title: swampers and snow!
Post by: nevadasmith on November 27, 2004, 10:33:23 AM
It snowed about in N nevada today and I did some testing on and off road
Test 1) swanper sx 30/11.50-15 11psi on road 4" snow; lots of slipping and sliding braking was nill at best over all miserable
test 2) walmart a/t 235/75-15 35psi on road didn't need four wheel drive minamal slipping good breaking for 4" off slushy snow.
test 3) wally a/t off road 6' off the road started turning snow into brown goo! wile didn'n push my luck venturing out in to the pila was posible I was not treading lightly.
test 4) swampers off road talk about tred lightly even wildly spinning tires didn't the mud just turned snow to Ice and the deep the snow the beter they whent!!!
they basicaly floated on top there is a catch though I couln't side hill with the swampers that I easily did with the A/T cheepy 235's

conclusion I like swampers...... off road they rein supreem ........ on road...... Yeah, learn to cope.......... If you want drive-a-billity you should stick with cheep A/T's as swampers are a pain on the road any ways and I whent every were whith the a/t's that i did with the swampers in four inches of snow!

are your swampers radials?  the wider any tire is it is a lot harder to side hill, I once went across the top of a ski slope following a fiend with those skinny stock old military tires, i had one hell of a time keeping from going skiing three miles down hill fast with 35x12.5's and he was laughing at me the whole time on the radio, he did not slip onece.

A 30 11.50 only comes in a bias ply. thats the problem. Bias plys suck in the snow. Saying swampers in the snow in kind of a blanket statement. There are many kinds of swampers. Radials are much better in the snow.

There swamper sx's (bias ply) and realy stiff even at 8-11 psi. but there have been several posts asking about mud tires and snow on here so i thought i'd do a little testing and post my expeiances and I could go every ware I wanted with the cheep A/T's but on the same note she's still wearin the swampers

a set of well center siped mt/r's are wicked all around

they are nice and soft
the blocks are arranged to dig in deep snow very well, and the sipes will bite ice well if siped 3/8 inch

36 Iroc's do awesome in the deep snow, just gotta air em' down. We usually go to at least 3 psi.
