I am doing a SAS (will post build when done) i am doing it with a Cj Dana 30. I got the 5.38 gears for that axle. Before i ordered the gears for the D30 i called around and found a complete third member it Petroworks got a quote of $275 so got the gears installed in the D30 called the day of the install and was told that they still had them. I proceeded with the gear setup. the next day i got more money so i was able to afford the 5.38 third member for the stock tracker rear diff, i called and then the guy told me that he was wrong that it was for a 10 bolt not the 12. That really pissed me off be cause i have spent so much money for an axle that i cant get a matching gear set for the rear. I have basically wasted around $900. Well after i calmed down a little i went ahead and tried to track down a set of gears. i called everyone that i can think of and i can not get them any where. I called GM and he gave me a number and a price but couldnt tell me whether or not it was 5.125 or 5.38s. So i called Suzuki and the guy looked it up and told me the gears were discontinued. So i am so incredibly F***ed its not even funny. If anyone has any ideas on were to try i would greatly appriciate it.
or if anyone has a set of 5.38 gears for the rear of a tracker(12bolt) then let me know i want them.

Swap to a 10 bolt carrier out of an early Kick and put them in.
-
Same here...... go 10 Bolt and ur done.
-
on the 10 bolt would i have to change the rear end or would a 10 bolt third fit in the twelve bolt housing. Sorry havnt had the two beside each other to see. If anything i could run that until i can find 12bolt 5.38s (If i ever find one)
When i called GM the guy told me that the gears were discontinued but GM has a discontinued warehouse end they have the gears there. Do any of you know if the 5.13s are still in production and if not the the gears that are in the warehouse should be the 5.38s right? Its just a thought they are $390us and are not returnable. So if i would buy them then that is $400 more that i am out, but if they are right then i am good and have no problem
Just curious why doesnt anybody make the aftermarket 5.38s for the tracker?

The 10 bolt carrier will bolt right into your 3rd member.
Is the CJ front axle the same with as the Suzuki rear axle?
-
Yukon carries the 5.38's but for the 10 bolt carrier, it says for a sammy but its the same 10 bolt carrier for either to the best of my knowledge. I'm not sure about pricing though. Scroll down almost to the bottom of the page I linked below. Cheers

Sammi's have a smaller dia. rear ring gear so they will not work. The 5.38 has 43 teeth on the ring and the 5.125 has 41 teeth. they both have 8 teeth on the pinion. If you can get them to count the number of teeth on the ring gear, you'll know what ratio it is.
-
cj, are you comparing the sammy ring gear to the 12 bolt ring gear of a Trackick, if so then you are definately correct of the difference in sizes? I was sure that the previous 10 bolt carriers in the early models of Trackicks were identical carriers to the sammy. I might be wrong but I thought I've came across this info a couple times before.

If you are into torrent you can download the Suzuki Worldwide (except Japan) Electronic parts catalog and try and figure out the correct part number

The 10 bolt and 12 bolt rear ring gears for the Track/Kicks are the same size. The front Track/Kick ring gear is also a 10 bolt but is a smaller diameter. The front ring gear will swap into a sammy, the rear will not.

Is the CJ front axle the same with as the Suzuki rear axle?
Close not exact the 82-86 "widetrack) CJs were 56 in wms to wms but the ones ?-81 (narrow track) were 52.5 wms to wms the 82-86 has 5 bolt holes for the lock outs and are considered weeker but the ones up to 81 has 6 lockout bolt holes and is said to be tougher.

the reason you cannot find a 12 bolt 5.38 sidekick rear gears is they were never made. 5.38 is a 1991 4 door only and they had 10 bolt rear diff. you could build up a toyota axle with 5.29's it will be close enough to 5.38 that you will never know (unless you drive in 4wd on dry pavement!)

Wow was i miss informed, i was told that the 91 4DR kicks with the 8 valve had the 12 bolt with 5.38s. that really sucks cause i didnt want to mess with the rear end i just wanted to tweak it. so i guess down the road i can swap in a D44 or something.
But for now i might just put the 10 bolt carrier in and try to be carful. thanks for the info.

If you are thinking you can put a samurai 10 bolt carrier in the rear axle of the trackick.....I don't think you can. The samurai (and trackick front) 10 bolt carriers are narrower (carrier bearing spacing is closer together) than the trackick rear carriers....therefore, I am pretty sure they don't/won't interchange.
If you are going to use a trackick rear 10 bolt carrier, then yes, it will swap in fine.....and I don't think it is really much weaker than the 12 bolt carrier........not really sure why they changed to 12 bolt carriers, AFAIK, the only difference in them is 10 vs. 12 bolts that hold the ring gear on.
-
The tracker 12 bolt axle and the 10 bolt third member will not interchange. Sorry its been a long week and just want to make sure i follow.
I have realized that i should have just went with my original plan which was to put a sammy axle under it instead of the D30 at least then i would have still been all suzuki and saved a ton of cash.

To put it simply.....10 or 12 bolt trackick rear axle parts (carrier/gears or complete third) are the only parts that will work in the rear trackick axle.

Pics showing sidekick and samurai third members:
Links were pulled from the thread shown here: Check it out. Good info.

I hope "holeshot" doesn't mind me posting them:
From left to right are sidekick 12 bolt rear, sidekick 10 bolt front, samurai 10 bolt rear:

This shows the bearing spacing differences:

These images don't show the sidekick 10 bolt rear but they may be of interest anyway.
Besides, other zukiworld threads make it pretty clear that the two rear sidekick thirds are interchangable. Mentioned here are some problems one might encounter:

I have also been hoping to find a way to stuff my samurai gears and ARB into a sidekick axle >:(. I want a cheap means of moving to a centered diff without changing my ratios.

That's going to be pretty hard to do....the spacing of the rear trackick and samurai (front or rear) bearing caps are different.....otherwise, you could just swap the samurai carrier and gears into a trackick rear third housing.
About the only thing I can think of is...... do a reverse hybrid housing.....use the samurai center section with trackick axle tubes
