Post by: rugbytown on August 17, 2007, 11:30:12 PM
I have just bought a 94 tracker and the key is stuck in the ignition. Any ideas how I can get it out?

so the key is stuck in the ignition huh well that may be a good thing the best easiest and least destructive to get the lock cylinder out of most ignitions is with the key in it. i would just suggest changing the cylinder out completly

Is the steering lock engaged? Try turning the steering wheel both ways to see if the key will turn another click. If not try some WD40 or similar.

If it is an automatic it could be that the park lockout is not ingaging properly. Dave

Rhinoman has the good advice assuming the key is not broken off in the lock...

often times on older vehicles the ignition switch wears to the point where you have to apply slight turning pressure to the steering wheel or to the shifter lever (if it is automatic) in order to get the key to move.

This feature is in place on automatic transmission vehicles to provide the same fuction as the clutch ignition switch does in order to prevent the operator from trying to start the vehicle while it is in gear.

Hope that this helps!
